I've been renting a room in a house (house share of Daft) for nearly a year now, I'm going into my final year of college and receiving BTEA. For the summer I am on an unpaid internship. I am receiving job seekers allowance after coming to an agreement with social welfare. Ie that I'm better to be working unpaid getting experience while looking for paid work, rather than sitting at home looking for paid work.

As I have additional travel costs now I'm unable to afford my rent..my room has just come into the allowable limit (350 shared accomadition Dublin) can I apply for rent allowance now or do I have to wait until September when I return to college?

You should be fine to apply for rent allowance. It's not a direct BTEA benefit so it doesn't make a difference and will in fact be easier now, since obviously you will not be at home for the surprise house checks if you are in college all day.

Another quick question, The part of the form that your previous employer fills out, what do I do if the company has gone out of business and any people I know from it are gone overseas? I tried ringing the appropriate rent unit all day but there was no answer

Quick question is rent allowance means tested? Very few places allow ra in kerry seems to be mainly in cities. Are there restrictions on ra or just a limit of places allowing rent allowance?

Yes, it's means tested. Details here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html
