it says on the website, cars reg in ireland pre 2008, still go on engine size,

so for me looking at a 2006/2007 2ltr diesel mondeo for towing etc.. . the tax on this is €710

    http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/MotorTaxRates/MotorTaxRatesBasedonEngineSize/

if this is the case. ..

im back to, pay more for a 2008/2009, and save on the tax,

or pay for a 2006/2007 and give the savings to the tax.

    ?

but, am i right in thinking, that if i brought in a car today, thats means im post 2008?.. like registering it in Ireland. so is it done on CO2,

meaning that it doesn't matter what year the car is?

like no matter what year the car is,.. it will be based on CO2, am i correct?

looking for a reliable, strong car. i know the mondeos well. . i know the new model is very expensive on parts versus the old model, hence my 2007/2006.

ps, i have the new model, but need a second car (family)

but thinking i might tow a 2 cow box., pulling maybe 2 animals 350kg each.

If the car is 2007 you will pay VRT based on CO2 and motor at based on engine CC.

What's the price difference between a 2007 and 2008 version?

Goes on original reg date, so 07 reg = cc rate

old mondeo model runs to 2007,

so. . if i was looking at 2008, its the new model only .. .

funny the way it worked. . .

    dam it anyway. .

both old and new models can be bought in 2007, . .

It's the same for every car out there. Most cars are released mid year, so there's always old V new shapes for same year out there.

Could be a slight chance some 2007 models were registered in 2008, often see dealers giving huge reductions on these cars to offload them.

i meant its funny that the car is stuck in the old tax method.. .. .

    its a wonder thers pre 2008 2ltrs still on the road. . €710 a year. .. . nuts. . .

    assuming so that if i brought in a 2008/9 its a CO2?

It was perfectly normal until the CO tax system came in so not nuts at all. Its only because of our old tax system that we have the mindset that a 2.0 is a big engine.

LOL, just wait 5 years when our CO2 system rates are the same as CC rates. I'll stick with my 2.5 petrol thank you :)

Its nuts alright, but pre 2008 big engined cars are impossible to shift for this reason getting you a great deal.
Id say the price between 2 similarly specked 2 litre cars from 2007 and 2008 would be massive.
Id much rather buy the 2007 car and put the difference towards the tax for a few years. You'd have less depreciation as well, both of which would save you money in the long run/lose you less!

Cheap tax and insurance alright. Guy who works for my dad has a daily x5 from 05 commercial with top spec which he bought last year for 8 grand.
Gets around 35 mpg and pays 300 and something tax, less than what it is to tax a polo!

If you have a reason to go commercial Id definitely look into it alright. SOme great bargains from that era out their at the moment due to bust tradesmen.
