Like many people my soul has been crushed by over 6 months of dealing with three, finally I got a satellite installed and it sucked. so back on to them and after a while i get e engineer out and it still sucks etc, etc.

Anyway , with speeds of .38 mbs up and 0.21 down, not to mind the lousy 10 gb cap, i feel the product is not what im paying for and i dont feel like spending another 6 months being led in circles by their "technical help". Am I within my rights to cancel the contract ?

Basically no...once you get a signal at all they deem it to "work". They blame it on a number of things "beyond their control".

You could try complaining to the DECNR http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/Communications/Communications+Development/National+Broadband+Scheme/National+Broadband+Scheme.htm

There are supposed to be standards laid down and they are supposed to be enforced by the Dept but they don't seem to care...

I'd suggest you look into Fixed Wireless Providers in your area, if you let us know roughly where we can suggest some providers in your area.

Two tins cans and some string is better, in most cases than "mobile internet".

Was thinking of writing to them all right and the minister. just to add my voice .

I live in Fheothanach north west of dingle. I understand that Kerry broadband offer a service in the area, problems are

1)I cant afford to pay for two.
2)They say they can get me a service as the school nearby gets broadband from them, but im located in a hallow and have a hard time getting saorview, phone reception or even RnaG, and the radio station is a mile or two down the road. so dont want to sign up and discover the same reason the 3 mobile device didn't work blocks this.
    3) not sure how keen the landlord would be to have another dish stuck on to the house, but thats minor , however i would want be to be 100% certain before i pushed for it.

There is also a company called rural broadband, they seem incredibly helpful, guy said he would come out and review the area etc. thing is I would need 10-15 other people to sign up to help cover the cost of installing a device in the area which would bounce the signal to our houses. Might be hard to find people given Kerry broadband are offering a similar service now.

If you contact one of the reps on boards.ie/three and explain your situation, odds are they will let you cancel your contract. I'm with three and had awful problems with it constantly disconnecting etc and they said I could cancel. Do Rural Broadband operate by line of sight do you know? AS i'm considering going with them but there are trees blocking a view from my house to the antennas on top of Brandon Mountain so i'm not sure if it will work,

Im not entirely sure but id imagine both Kerry broadband and rural broadband operate by line of site since they are not using satellite. I think its radio they use. Don't know how much trees etc would obstruct this.

Kerry broadband seem to have a service in the area, the school in Feothanach gets it, must go have a gawk and see which side of the school is receiving it and if i can figure out if i would get it.

Im below the school to the west, im afraid the hill the school is on will block my reception.

Rural broadband has not equipment installed in the area yet, they said if 10-15 locals got together it would offset the cost of the instillation.

It really depends on where their site is and whether you have line of site. Check the school in question and see what direction the antenna is pointing in, and if you have line of sight in that direciton from home.

With regards to those three services, more than likely they all come from different locations so it's hard to compare them with broadband.

    1. Saorview comes more than likely from Maamclassach/Mount Eagle.
    2. Mobile phone reception is no indicator of broadband because of it's portable nature.
    3. Contrary to many people in that area's beliefs, there is no high power transmission of RnaG from their building in Ballydavid. There is a transmission on 93.5 but it's only 20 watts and is only of much use in the immediate area (Ballydavd, Murreagh and Feothanach) and is quite poor even in a lot of these areas. There used to be UHF television services from here too but they were shut off in 2012.
