Aside from Kippure, Turlough Hill, Kilmashogue does anywhere (mid/North Wicklow or South Dublin) else have hills that finish at a "summit" accessible by road bike? I'm looking for new challenges! I know there's Mount Leinster but that's a bit far down.

Slaughter hill out of Newtown towards Roundwood. Altidore hill from Kilpedder up towards Djouce. Both are quite steep.

Thanks! Am familiar with slaughter hill but never heard of the other one - is it easy to find?

Any other hills you can go on to the summit of?

Easy enough, just go up the road across from the Grove Bar. Its flat enough then there is a right up towards Djouce/Roundwood (not sure if there is a road sign) where it starts getting steep. Haven't actually been up it since I started cycling regularly so not sure how it compares to the others you've mentioned.

Three Rock is the only other obvious 'summit' I can think of, or if you just want a cul-de-sac a la Kilmashogue, you could go up Tibradden Lane, across the valley from Kilmashogue.

I don't know whether this is of any use to the OP but someone posted this here before, it's a map of many/most of the climbs in Dublin/Wicklow

Long Hill, Red Lane, Altidor, Kilmurry, Slaughter and Callow Hill all run up the same east-west ridge along the east coast. Listed above they follow from north to south if you take a look on a map.

I can't think of any others by road bike than those listed. There are of course lots of other short steep 1-3km hills.

Thanks, looked up Tibradden on Strava for future reference. Is Three Rock grand on a road bike? I thought it was the rough looking track from top of Kilmashogue?

Nice one thanks. I know Long Hill, Red Lane and Slaughter. Have just figured our where Altidor is, so will have to go find Callow and Kilmurry now - hope they're labelled on Strava with those names!

Yes, just go up Kellystown Road or Ticknock Road and in the gate. Tarmac to the mast.

Not a summit, but the climb past Stranakelly / Dying cow pub certainly put manners on me; http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=567027 If you want to take a lumpy road to get there, take in the wall up to the old long hill, back road / wicklow way road section to Laragh, Greenane, Macreddin road into Aughrim, and the Rednagh road from Aughrim out to Tinahely. I did this last year and took a very flat route home.

Tried that climb earlier on from Ticknock Road and thoroughly enjoyed it. So nice to start with a quiet road and then have the tarmac trail all the way to the top. If a Boards hill climb competition ever happens again that'd get my vote! Coming down I used Kellystown Road which I assume would be a longer slog up as it starts lower. No doubt there would have been a nice view fro mthe top had it been a slightly nicer morning!

Thanks yeah that's Red lane isn't it? First bit of it really is so tough! Only once descended that hill and it was cold and possibly icey so I said never again!
