    Hi all,
I received my turkish airlines frequent flyer card today and it says in the letter that I can get last minute upgrades. Just wondering how does this work? When do I request one (at check in or at the gate when boarding)? I am flying again on Thursday and would really like an upgrade! 11 hours in a plane is much better in comfort class!

    Thanks,
    Adam

I would assume that in line with many airlines if they need to upgrade some passengers they will prioritise frequent flyers over 'normal' pax.

How do I go about requesting an upgrade? At check in, or before boarding?

say it at checkin ... and if its available they will mention it to you prior to boarding.

    The classic card.

Wouldnt look too promising for you. In your situation having the card is worth nothing over not having the card in terms of being selected for an upgrade as you have no points earned on it.

You are relying on economy being overbooked and then being picked out by the check in people who would give upgrade priority to their frequent flyers(based on status, most program's have 3 levels of ystatus(plus some v. Exclusive levels) so they would have priority over you.

Most airlines also give upgrade priority to passengers of their airline alliance partners who have status.

Last-minute upgrades are available to everyone - if you're prepared to pay for them. I'm guessing that's most probably what your letter was alluding to.

There's very little chance of any scheduled airline offering a bump, based solely on the fact that you've joined their FF program. As others have mentioned, priority would be given to Miles & Smiles elites, followed by elites from other Star Alliance member airlines.
