Runners Knee, Ever Heard Of It ?

Couldn't cycle without bad pain and it kept getting worse, I'm no stranger to bad knees so I didn't think anything of it at first but after I was kept awake with the pain in my right knee I decided to go to the Doc and he told me it's runners knee, I forget the medical term for it but it can be very painful.

Seemingly I have a very strong muscle and a very weak muscle and the strong muscle is pushing a part of a bone against another in my knee. He had a model showing exactly what was happening which explained the clicking I was feeling too.

But I was told not to cycle for a few weeks and do exercises which alone are sore but on my muscle, probably the weak one. He said if it doesn't improve I'll eventually not be able to walk and will need new knees. Worst thing is it's both of them.

I think cycling made the problem worse, the hills can kill my knees. I used to have a leccy motor on the bike and got rid of it as I got a lot more fit but it made my knees worse. So now when it gets better I'm going to have to get a leccy again to assist me for those hills. I'll still get plenty of exercise when I turn off the motor. Bad arches was also an issue years ago but he said the runners I have have enough support.

Anyone have runners knee and got better or worse ? and did you find cycling made it worse ?
