trip to Ascot

    Thinking of going to Ascot for the champions day in October. Looking on advise on the best place to stay in London and travel to the races

    Ascot is on the main line from London Waterloo to Reading, so anywhere not too far from a station on that line should be fine. I used to live in Richmond, which is one of the stops and handy for getting out there.

    I went last year (to see Frankel, basically) and that time stayed in the Jury's Inn in East Croydon. Not exactly Richmond, but the hotel is grand and very handy for Gatwick Airport. Think it cost £110 for a room for two nights, which is good for London.

    From East Croydon it's only a few stops to Clapham Junction and again you're on the Waterloo-Reading line from there.
