How to unlock a a Samsung s3?

Hi all,

I am on Vodafone bill pay and received a Samsung galaxy s3 about 2 months ago as an upgrade. Could anyone please tell me how would I go about getting the phone unlocked? Would I have to go to Vodafone to get this done and would it cost? If so how much?

Vodafone wont give you the code unless its out of contract.

Youll have to get it done in a repair shop. I got an s2 done a while back and it cost €30. Be carefull tho as i had it repaired a few weeks after unlocking and the repair guy said some forms of unlocking will void the warranty. Luckily mine was done ok so the repair was foc. The warranty is either 23 or 24 months on samsungs.

You can get it done in a phone repair shop.
It should cost about 15 - 20€
Be sure to ask for a network code unlock (or similar name)! not a root sim unlock.
Rooting your phone can void the warranty.

Or use this free app from google play store. You may need to be rooted, its worked for me on several galaxy phones, one of which I'm pretty sure wasn't rooted.

You buy with cash or card? If card, do you have bank/credit-card records?

That used to be free for XDA members, the full app, no in-app payment.(galaxsimunlock)

I think it is gone now, but check out the XDA thread just in case.

I got my s3 unlocked on Ebay for 11 euro. Took 24 hours to arrive.

I umlocked mine with an app off pkaystore for a euro or sonething. Ill try find the appname

I bought my official unlock code on eBay for €7, they texted on the correct unlock code after a few hours and it worked perfectly without affecting my warranty

Bring it to a samsung registered repair store. They will check the warranty off the IMEI number.
Fonemenders in cork did mine and i think they have a few shops. Contact samsung thru email with your location and they will tell you your nearest shop.

I used that app and it worked perfectly. There's an in app purchase but it's only $2 or so. You do need to be rooted though.
