Did the 100K last year, really good event. Was planning the 180 this year but alas wont be able to make it. Didn't do the two day thing, although it looks very tempting.....

Easily my favourite event in the cycling calendar. I did the 100k Glen of Aherlow cycle on the Sunday last year and this year I'm hoping to try out the 180k which also takes in "the Vee".

The marshalling and food stops are excellent plus there are lots of routes to choose from (don't know of many/any other cycles with such a selection). Always attracts a really friendly bunch of people too.

Guess it comes as no surprise that this is its 18th year on the go!

The Vee is nothing to be scared of :)

Thinking of doing this event myself...

    Not on my own computer at the moment to upload maps, but two of the routes have been uploaded to mapmyride by participants on the Trip to Tipp;

    180km http://www.mapmyride.com/ie/thurles-m/trip-to-tipp-180km-2012-route-115860639
    100km http://www.mapmyride.com/ie/thurles-m/trip-to-tipp-100km-route-2010-route-19426752

We hope to keep the routes the same this year, just need to go on the routes ourselves in the next week or so to make sure no changes are required this year.

I'll put up links to all the maps for the weekend in the next week or so.

For some reason the climbs feature doesnt work on those links, i.e., cant see the profile

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Blazing Bikers

Is it the 70km routes you are looking at? as there are no real climbs on those two routes just a few little drags. If its the 100km or 180km try refreshing as that happened to me earlier.

Sorry there may have been a problem with some of the maps as I forgot to change the setting to Public .... woops! Sorry!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭DD Mikasa

On the 180k, the climbs are Glen of Aherlow, the Vee and whats the third biggee?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Blazing Bikers

The Third Climb would be Mount Melleray :)

    Which is a b!tch :D

The first and last bits are the toughest. The bit in the middle isn't too bad.

I'm planning on doing the 100km route, but hope to cycle to Thurles (56km) and home again - simply because I'd have no drive home if I did the 180km. :D

Nice. Looks 'interesting' . What are the average gradients on Aherlow and the Vee?

Do you know if any hotels are offering deals for the Friday and Saturday night? Would love to bring family down.

    Hi,

The Anner Hotel are doing a rate for the Trip to Tipp if you just mention the cycle, off hand I can't remember how much but I will find out and get back to you. I know they are fully booked out on the Friday Night though...

That's the only hotel in Thurles, nearest after that would be the Horse & Jockey.

There are a list of some of B&B 's on our website

    http://www.bikerschallenge.com/Blazingbikers/Trip_to_Tipp_2013.html

We also we know of people offering to do B&B for the Weekend at a very reasonable rate

Am in Abbey Court in Nenagh at the moment with family at the family and they like it down here. I need a hotel with pool or something for the kids. Abbey Court is booked out on the Saturday though. Looked at combining this hotel and
The Anner but works out too pricey.

That's a pity maybe the Horse and Jockey might have a good deal?

and they have a leisure centre and just a few mins from Thurles
