New Fiesta ST/Focus Titanium/Mondeo Graphite?

Looking at a change, and at 3 very different cars.

Fiesta ST is quick, but small, and of the three will be the most expensive, most expensive to run, but also the most fun to drive :D

I'd need an ST2 I reckon which retails at c.€26k

Focus Titanium is a 115bhp TDCI. It's what I have currently (7500 miles from brand new) and it's an excellent all rounder. Inexpensive to run. Needs Ford Sync (which is on offer at €132 currently). Retail is c. €25250.

Mondeo Graphite. Again 115bhp 6 speed manual. It's an entry level car but is very well specced.

    16 5x2 alloy wheels
    Air conditioning
    BlueTooth Voice Control
    Front fog lights
    QuickClear heated windscreen
Seven Airbags including Driver's knee airbag
    Driver seat power height adjust
    Trip Computer
    Perimeter alarm
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Control and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
    Cruise Control
    Sports Suspension
    Auto Start-Stop

Now I know a new model is due soon enough, but I'm unlikely hold this car much beyond 6 months in any event. In white and with a D plate I'll be invincible :D

    The price? €23950.

Any thoughts/observations? My experience incidentally is that Foci resell extremely well, and quickly too, which is a factor ultimately. I'd be concerned the Mondeo would be trickier to sell on when the time came.

The Fiesta as it's a rare car. You could have the rest any day

Updated the standard specification list on the Mondeo Graphite for you there Henry. Anyhting struck through is now an optional extra.

    Based on that, Focus Titanium.

Massive price jump to the Mondeo Zetec now - €3,070, but Zetec will now get Nav, but lose Front & Rear Park sensors.

Why are you buying a new car and only keeping it for 6 months???

    Because he can?

Seems crazy to me changing from your current car with only 7500 miles on it, especially to another Focus just for the Sync gizmo. Mondeo is old hat now too imo no matter how cheap Ford are trying the shift them at.

Is anything other than another Ford an option, seems like you have practically gone through the entire range at this stage?

I'm going to guess that Henry can buy new Fords at the Ford Staff rate. I could have done that while at Hertz, but never took advantage as I didn't have the cash at the time.

I know what the Ford Staff price is on these cars, and reckon if this is the case, Henry is driving a shiny new Ford every 6 months with no depreciation to worry about, and perhaps making a profit.

I'd get the Fiesta ST. if it were me by the way.

Then why in gods name even consider the cookie cutter models and not be in the best they offer at any one time.

    Resale values, and available cash.

I saw a few ST fiestas together in Barcelona not so long ago. Must have been some Ford thing but they looked the business. For something different and fun I'd look there, although selling it for decent money might be a right PITA in this country as you know...class little yokes though!

question: is the aston martin look deliberate as ford own a stake of AM....or just a happy coincidence?

Concerns which pale in comparison to the "what you could have had feeling" if you keep buying diesel Mondeos over Focus ST's...
Just buy and sell ever so marginally less frequently.

It'll still cost more. It's really about the finances and priorities of the OP.

I never said it didnt cost more, but logically all if 3 are placed as options, then he can afford any of the 3. If he cant, then the entire post is pointless, just by the cheapest diesel.

Also his priorities.. again surely they all fit the same function and priority solve.. otherwise why list them as viable options.

On pure logic, we have a list of 3 cars, all do the same basic job and all affordable, one is a fun focused ST the others are low power dullsville Mondeos. Its not even a serious question.

Yes and no Matt. I can afford to buy and run any of them, although I'd prefer to minimise total ownership costs if possible. I have a fun car too (MkII Escort).

Focus is the best all rounder without a doubt, but the Fiesta ST (smaller, more expensive to buy and run) is quite appealing.

I had a Fiesta 1.6 Ti-Vct Zetec S a couple of years ago and that had 120bhp and was great fun.

I doubt I'll get a meaningful test drive in a Fiesta ST either.

I've removed the Mondeo from the equation now. I just don't need a car that size.

I'm sure he can afford a top end Mondeo, but he might not want to squeeze other spending.

They all offer different things, and they all presumably cost different amounts.

I assume he's asking himself whether the extra fun of the Fiesta justifies the extra expense. Which really comes down to how much fun he could have spending the money saved on other stuff.

Great chassis in them fiestas, I'd hope with the bit of power, it would be a fun little car
