The 118th Amateur Championship takes place from 17-22 June at Royal Cinque Ports and Prince's. The field comprises 288 players from 29 countries.

1 irish left in last 16 - Aaron Kearney (Castlerock)

    Live scoring here - http://championships.randa.org/en/AmateurChampionships/AmateurChampionship/Home/DrawScoreResult.aspx

The fella he's up against today has beaten an Irishman in each round he's played so far.

He's already beaten Cormac Sharvin and Paul Dunne and he's 1up on Kearney after 14 holes.

It was on sky sports tonight. Great to see a bit of coverage. What a standard.

Great to see the odd... ok, one "auld" fella in the field.
A 44 year old from England got to last 16 (maybe 8?).
14 more years for me, need a cut this weekend I reckon ;)

Apart from him, they commented that a 27 year old was one of the elder statesmen :(

Not really too many top guys who remain amateurs.

I don't know how the guys in Ireland even do it, some of the cships take up about 6 days. It must be impossible to work a job and try play in these events.

It must be quite costly too for the few days, finding accommodation & paying for food etc.

Did you see the chairman of the R&A being interviewed on the coverage last night?

He was stressing the point that this was all about the amateur game, that these guys and the competition symbolized everything about it... A little case of... If you say it enough, you might believe it.

They are pros in the making, I'd say 99% of them have hopes/expectations about going Pro and see this as a stepping stone.
They should feed them with 10 pints the night before each round if they want to truly represent the amateur game (joke... drink responsibly :))
