    Hey guys,

My friend appealed one of her grades about 2/3 weeks ago and is yet to hear anything back..

She paid the €40 required to appeal a module and I'm just wondering when she can expect to heat back about the appeal? Thanks.

It depends on the provider. In my college, results of appeals are normally available in October.

I appealed three modules exactly one month ago. The career guidance teacher told me it can take upto 2 months before I may hear anything. Basically we're in for a wait for a bit longer.

Considering the CAO closes on July 1st, I would say that is pretty **** practice.

I agree 100%. But thing is, Fetac just don't care and do what they feel like. Knowing whether my appeals were successful or not obviously has a big impact on my course choices, and your friends, I'm sure.

Yeah and on the persons chance of getting a place, for example: if a course specifies that you need a distinction in module 'x' yet you got a merit so you can't get accepted onto that course. You appeal it and they give you a distinction a few months later. What use is that if the CAO offers are already out?

That's the exact scenario I'm in, Mark. It's unfair, without a doubt. At this point I'll probably end up taking a level 7 course even though I'm capable ( I feel and my tutor feels) for a level 8. Though, like you say, the criteria for one course may be 5 distinctions, so me with my present 3 won't get looked at, even though I could potentialy be successful with my appeal and add another 3 distinctions to my results and make my application more attractive.

Honestly, though plcs and fetac do a lot of good for people and such they're structure for corrections, appeals and such is ridiculously rigid and old fashioned.

Hi folks, there is no need to panic.

The CAO operates on the principle that if your appeal is successful and that as a result you are entitled to an offer of a course higher than the course you were offered then you will receive that offer. Once the decision is made on your appealed result FETAC should notify the CAO>

Bear in mind that the results of the Leaving Cert appeals process is not known until mid Autumn well after the CAO offers for Rounds 1 onwards and that Leaving Cert students are often in receipt of higher offers in Sept/Oct.

On the wait for the appeals do remember that you should have known as you progressed through the course what your results were - this is part of the learner feedback required by FETAC of the centre/college.So you should know the results for the assessments that you submitted throughout the year - obviously assignments and exams completed at the end of the year may not have been communicated to you.

Finally the appeals process is not handled by FETAC but by your centre/college. They have to get an External Authenticator in review the appealed work and then they will issue their decision. So the time it takes to process the appeal is in the hands of the centre/college and the External Authenticator.

    Best of luck

The exact situation is explained over here, Further Ed. Good to have you back, by the way.

The situation is explained here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056961206

She has since appealed the result to the college, who have said they will write a letter with her appeal to explain to external examiner the situation she is in. I have informed her to give the college a ring today and find out the latest.

Just an update, she rang the college this morning and was informed her, and 2 others who were also moved down a grade, appeal was successful and she got her distinction back.

The college also paid for the appeals on their behalf. Thanks for the help!
