I am receiving a reduced rate of jobseekers allowance for the last 14 months due to having savings. 3 months ago I applied to have my means reassessed because my savings had decreased. Does anyone know if this will be backdated when my payment is finally adjusted? The person behind the counter gave me the impression it would not.

It would normally be backdated to the date of the application for the reassessment or means review

Thanks, I would hope so,Taking very long though. Last year when I applied for JSA when my JSB entitlement was coming to an end It only took about a Month from the time I applied to Payment. Hard to figure why things are so much slower now.

Priority would be given to people who are waiting on a payment or whose benefit is exhausting.

Well 4 months on I still have not heard anything from the DSP in relation to my application . It really is ridiculous. What would happen if I was lucky enough to get a job and I signed off before my claim was dealt with? Would I not receive anything for the last 4 months?

you'd probably get something from your Health Officer
I waited roughly 6 months for the SW to assess my means after my JSB ran out and another 6 months after I appealed it. for the first 6 months I've been paid by the HC and then after the appeal process I received the difference between what the SW paid me vs what I was supposed to be paid.

6 months! thats ridiculous. I think more people need to start complaining about the waiting times. Its completely unacceptable.

Its the same number of staff in the boom thats dealing with a number about ten times as large of unemployment, etc, now in the bust... Coupled with a whole load more methods they have to employ regarding "means testing", there is only so much they can do.

As far as I know, youll get money paid from when you applied to when you started working.

Im not blaming the staff, the recession is 5 yrs old now, plenty time for the government to do something about these unacceptable waiting times, but nothing changes unless people complain.
