Any idea when this happens? I'm tracking some flights to Portugal in late September and hoping for a bargain. It seems to have started in Early June last year.

They had a sale for your time period a few weeks ago, would expect another soon enough.

They only have a sale when it looks like there will be over capacity. If that last sale mentioned above cleared out all of the spare capacity, you will be waiting for a sale that never happens and prices will keep going up as the number of remaining seats dwindles.

The fact that they had a sale this time last year doesn't guarantee that there will be one this year. Aer Lingus plans the capacity (number of flights) in advance and if they get it right (capacity=demand), there will be no sale at all. If there is more demand than planned, prices will go up and stay up and if demand is less than planned, they will have sales.

It's a guessing game on both sides.

I'm open to using Air France / Iberia. I usually prefer not to use Aer Lingus, but there is no direct alternative. Will wait for an attractive price.

indeed, 20% off the prices which are now 20% higher than last week.
Well, at least for the september flight that I am interested in and tracking for the past few months.

Yeah, it seems like a bit of a sham. I've fare alerts set up for months too. It's such a pity Ryanair don't fly to Lisbon.

Absolute joke. Was set to book 2 return flights to JFK today for October. Same dates are now almost €200 more expensive, including the discount.

Response from Aer Lingus twitter page: "our fares change frequently in response to demand, but discount will always apply to lowest available fare"

    Bollocks.

November fares have shot up too. US Airways it is then.

If you are going to JFK then why not look at Delta or American or even United to EWR.

Wouldn't fly Delta again, but the even so, none are direct options for my dates unfortunately. Not looking solely for JFK, just annoying that the price hike came today.

I see but all airlines do it so nothing new, as American are only new on the route they could have some good fares.

No, I know it's common, doesn't make it right though. Frustrating how they try to justify it because of demand.

But yeah, unfortunately American aren't an option for the dates I need to travel on. Do they only fly selected days?

New York and Chicago are everyday up to 27 October then Chicago is dropped for winter and New York goes to 4 weekly, I think days of departure from Dublin are Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat for the winter.

A quick update on this. I popped for these flights in the last 'Sale'. Now the real sale is on and the flights are €50 per person cheaper. It often pays to hold out. I usually wait for 4-6 weeks before travel with Ryanair, but my inexperience with EI has caught me out in this case.

The hot weather in July has hit bookings a lot and prices are being reduced below normal.
