Help with choosing a keyboard & mouse set for gaming.

So, built a rig last November, all the bells and whistles, 3770K (I’m a flight simmer and it’s heavily CPU bound), Asus GTX680, SSD etc etc,
My problem is my keyboard and mouse. I’m using a wireless set I “won” from Microsoft reps at an exhibition for the launch of FSX in 2006. :D

The signal frequently cuts from the mouse and the keyboard frequently fails to transmit keystrokes.

I’d like to get a decent, hopefully matching, hopefully buyable from Amazon, hopefully from a good brand (Razer?) mouse & keyboard set.

Was just wondering if the community had any recommendations or input?

    Thanks.

    EDIT;

I should have said in my original post; I was thinking about ~€100 for both together but am willing to go to €150 if I find excellent quality on sale.

Regarding connection method, so far as I am aware, it’s a choice between USB and wireless, so I’d like to get USB.

Just ordered the below myself and seems to fit in with your budget, the below aren't the best prices so shop around but I'm sure you'll get both for €150 somewhere.

A friend of mine has them and he said both are great.

You wouldn't want to be in a rush though, I ordered that keyboard on Saturday thinking the 1-3 months was a bit of an exaggeration as is usually the case :pac:, no sign of dispatch yet anyway.

Is it usual that buy buy stuff with such large dispatch rates? :pac: I checked the same keyboard on Amazon.com. It has the same rate of dispatch. I imagine they wait for an order to become big enough before... moving them from storage? Manufacturing them? I dunno what the reason may be.

Did you contact the seller by any chance? I would buy it in a heartbeat if I got conformation that it wouldn't actually be up to 3 months

I haven't because I'm not in that big a rush for it, if it has to wait till after payday at the end of the month I'm fine with that. :)

The seller appears to be amazon themselves which is why I though the estimate might be way off, I have ordered one or two items with similar dispatch dates in the past and it hasn't been more than a few days at most before they got sent out.

And did it say in the product info that the delivery estimate would be about one month? Because that's a good sign for us waiting for that keyboard tbh.

Alright. And you got it within the week, as per usual with Amazon? Cool. Hopefully this keyboard won't take more than a month :P

No it only despatched tonight. I ordered it last week, so as usual with amazon, stock can come in and out randomly.

I used to use a wireless mouse, in fact Ive used several over the years. I never really believed all the hype about wired mouses (I wrote mouses instead of mice. So bad I cant delete it!!!) for gaming.

Then I got a Razer Deathadder and will never use anything inferior again. I also got a Razer extended mousemat, and its so buttery smooth in use. Im well used to it now, but whenever friends are over and go on the internet on my gaming pc, the very first thing they say is "oh wow, your mouse just glides so easily."

I'm going to pick one up myself soon. Currently my mouse is gliding over wood :P

I emailed Amazon and asked if there was a more accurate dispatch time available, citing previously inaccurate long dispatch date estimates.

    I'm not waitin' weeks. :P

If you want cherry mx reds the qpad mk-50 is cheaper. All the keys are mechanical on the qpad, some of the keys are rubber dome on the k60.

I don't know anything about the mouse.

/Its true, some are rubber domed. I have the K60 and also love it. In practical use I forget that some keys are rubber dome. Its only the F keys and the Home/End buttons that use rubber domes, all the other keys, including the number pad are mechanical.

In Battlefield 3 Ive played nearly 850 hours. Very rarely do upgrades make much difference to your skill level or increase your score. In general they usually just enhance your enjoyment and give you bragging rights among your geeky friends. However when I bought the keyboard I found an incredible difference for two reasons. The first reason was because the buttons are so much more precise, and in the heat of battle it was much easier to tell if they were properly pressed. I found it made vehicle combat much more responsive, no joke, it was quite noticeable. The second difference is more of a personal issue. I find that my fingers get a little bit fatigued, especially after a long gaming session and I subconsciously was getting lazy to reduce the discomfort. With this keyboard I find the Cherry Red switches are much easier to push down, so I can depress them with around 30-40% less force than with the rubber domed keyboard I was using.

Another small bonus is that I have a pair of Z-10 speakers I rarely use, but when I do want to use them I simply plug it into the USB pass-through on the back of the keyboard and Windows automatically detects them and switches the audio automatically. Really love not having to reach down to my PC to mess about with loads of cables.

The way I look at it now is that anything I use to interact with my computer must be great to look at and to touch. It gives me a nice sense Im using quality kit. In the same way I like to have a nice leather steering wheel and gear knob in any vehicles I drive because even if the car is rubbish, it feels nice to touch!

Did you end up getting the Razer Deathadder by any chance? Im trying to order and it is saying:
" We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below."
My order for the keyboard went through perfectly for the same address.

No, I'm not purchasing the deathadder, I just ordered the keyboard 2 or 3 days ago and it went through fine.

I bought a Mionix Naos 5000 about a year ago and still find it fantastic. I had never heard of the company before, but every review I read before getting it was singing it's praises.

I think there is a new one out now, a Naos 8200, so it might be worth a look as well.
