I have a 00 comfortline VW golf, its had an NCT till next July, but unfortunately its leaking oil and also may be leaking gear box oil,Its got high mileage and Iv had it 7 years and have decided to replace it and cant be bothered bring it to be fixed, How much do you think I could get rid of it for ,

Not trying to be funny, but sub €1000 for sure and that would be for a 'good' one. The leaks etc would seriously diminish any value.

If you have the time and space it might be worth more if you break it for parts.

I honestly wouldn't expect more than 1000, but do u reckon it would be worth my while putting in donedeal or something for that pirce, Or you know these cash for cars sign's would that be worth it ?
I wouldn't have the first clue about breaking it myself ,

Cars for cash will give you very very little. Put it on done deal and be honest about possible problems you know of, people can check it out for themselves.

I would expect no more than 700 - 900 depending on condition and mileage (which you say is high)

If he isn't bothered fixing it to add value I can't see why he'd break it tbh.

OP - you'd get probably €7-800 I'd imagine. Fix it up though and give it a good clean and you'd nearly make double that. Even in the short run you might as well get quotes to see how much it would be to fix it.

    Just giving him/her options.

Any guess at prices without even knowing if it's a diesel or a petrol is pure bullshít tbh.

No it isn't. At 13 years old (And its not a classic) its depreciated and reach a level where that isn't going to make any significant difference to the price. Even if, hypothetically, being petrol added 20% to the value, that's about €100. So any estimate is still accurate.

A decent spec TDI golf is worth significantly more than a 1.4 petrol in the Irish market.

I'd be surprised if this got any more than 500 petrol or diesel.

There is potentially a lot of work involved in sorting the two oil leaks.

    its a 1.4 petrol ,
I guess the best thing to do is put it up and see what i can get,
I suppose paying a few hundred to get it fixed first is an option but at this stage i just want rid of it,

In the context of a 13 year old car? Not a chance. Any difference is minimal. Around the 5 to 7 year old mark, yes I fully agree with you but not beyond the 10 year mark. Depreciation and general age will have bottomed out the market to an even playing field.

This is Ireland were talking about, a turbo daysel will command more than petril regardless of year or condition because everyone wants daysel.

Quazzie has it spot on, you see it all the time on dondella. Youll really only get a cheap diesel is if theres something wrong with it

In Ireland even 13 year old petrol Golfs fetch relatively good money because of the fascination that a lot of people over have for them. A fully working 2000 1.4 Golf with a bit of NCT would fetch about €1200 or more imo.

If I were you I would go and get a quote on what it would cost to fix it, based on that then decide if you want to invest money in it to sell it on. In it's current condition it is probably worth more in breaking for parts than selling it as a whole imo.
