Can't complain about those fixtures. I know it's very early to judge teams, but in our first five games we have two promoted teams and two mid-table teams. Also, a North London derby - Arsenal always start the season slowly, right??

I think you'll find that we're generally slow starters too!! It's a good time to get that bloody game out of the way though.

November and March look like our toughest months, November in particular - away to Everton & City and home to Utd & Newcastle.

On paper, our last 6 games are very winnable, and we're at home to Villa on the last day too. That could be hugely important. Mind you, looking at the fixtures for our top 4 challengers and nobody seems to have it too bad.

What's the betting on there being some sort of transfer fiasco still happening at Spurs as the new season starts? Bale potentially going to Madrid, one or two other signings almost there but not quite - I've no doubt there'll be something not related to matters on the pitch itself that will cast a shadow over the team/club.

Hopefully AVB, and the imminent arrival of Franco Baldini, will be able to improve the state of our transfer policy. I know the not having a settled squad going in to last season really pissed AVB off. He often mentioned the 'unsettled' start to the season in programme notes or interviews.

True, and things have been so close over the last 2 seasons that an extra point or 3 in the first 5 - 6 games could make a massive difference at the end. It's so important for the squad to be settled, familiar and ready on the 1st day of the season with no question marks from anyone about where they'll be or who else will be coming in.

August - September surely the worst time to play promoted teams?

Going on the past 2-3 seasons a decent time to play Arsenal except we never win any games pre close of the transfer window.

I dunno why but as soon as I clicked on the thread title I knew we'd be playing Arsenal in the opening games!!

You'd assume AVB would have enough about him to make sure we don't get caught out against the newly promoted teams so I'd expect 4 points from 6 before the trip to the emirates... a win there and that sets up the season nicely and we could go on a nice little run, however - lose that game (especially in the manner of last years return fixture) and we could have a tough few weeks in Sept/Oct.

Brilliant finish to the season. A 9 game winning streak wouldn't be impossible..... well, maybe for Spurs it is.. But still, can't complain.
