    Hi all,

im looking for advice on a snapped gear cable, which snapped this evening, (its the cable to change the gears from 1-3, instead of the 1-7 gears)

the bike is a trek 3500 mountain bike.

ive never replaced one before, so forgive me if the question comes accross as a little green... :)

are there specific cables for this purpose?
are they readily available in a bike shop, or would my best bet be too order it off the net??

    any advice appreciated. :)

Yeah local bike shop will have that.

Just tell em it's a gear cable for a mountain bike you need. If you have a couple of spanners and Allen keys and wire cutters its pretty easy to fit yourself - just look at where it's currently routed.

Any bike shop will have a gear cable and they're all a standard fit...
Should only be 2 or 3 euro...

Have a look on youtube for how to change the cable and index the gears.
It's not that hard, just give yourself plenty of time to get it right...

thanks all, got the cable, fitted it easy enough.
just having trouble with the tuning,.

ive watched a load of videos on it, but am still having a slight issue wiht it.
basically, when tuning the front derailleur, when you move the gear up to 2 and 3, the chain is slightly rubbing off the derailleur., i just cant get it to change the gears, and not have the chain rubbing off the derailuer. :o

it changes smothly, up, and back down.....except for the inner part of the chain, rubbing off the deraileur.

to tune it, ive set the chain on the back derailleur, and the front derailleur is set on the small cog.

ive adjusted the low setting, to allow the required space between the chain and derauiller. ive connected the change cable, and used the cog at the change to add remove tension....

any ideas on what i could be doing wrong.. :)
