    Hi,
Ive been betting for about 2-3years. and was wondering if there is any strategys or betting systems that work. Ive lost alot for money in the last few months. Finding it harder and harder to pick winners. And place bets

A guy has given me a betting system to try. He sends me e-mails every month on his system. I dont find it helpful. But he lives by his systems.

    Any help would be great.

    %Thanks jambo

I don't think anyone has yet come up with a system that sustains itself, some seem to work for a while but its usually down to a good start and then the "average" kicks in and you lose more than you win.

The best approach is that shown by Rossom etc, find the horse that is simply the wrong price for the race in question.

I do look for things like that in choosing my picks. But nothing ever stands out. And If i did hit a winner at a big price its down to luck. down to a feeling witch dosent help most days.
ascot today 9/1 o brien started yest and finished at 20/1 and romped home. Of course i didnt back him. I had one 3rd place. so today stands me a loss of 3 points. (30euro).

Thank you for the feedback though mate. Hope your luck is better than mine today.

I just use the draw bias! Ascot - high, the bigger the field the higher the draw. Some mega Cavalry charges tomorrow!

Think ive about 12.5 returns for my 3rd place, A whole 12.5 I know.
I missed out on the jp murt double today 150/1 I usually back him. Just from my grand-dad. He used to bet him all the time.

May have a look at tomorrows cards with a bit more care.

The hardest thing I find is, choosing from big cards. The best horses on paper come no-where.

Was really thinking about knocking it all on the head, but betting is one of the only things im interested in.

If you are looking from a long term perspective, "value" or lack thereof is the way to go. Try price up a card for yourself, pick a meeting you are interested in, and do it. Value is a hard thing to assess and name in racing, but aside from my "fancies", generally just at the big meetings, and tips I might receive, I back and lay pretty much solely on a value perspective, so in general, I will only play if something is the "wrong" price, whether it be too big, or too short. I don't mean too short or big by half a point, I mean a real rick. Say you price something up as a 3/1 shot, and there is 8/1 available, that would always be a play for me.

This probably isnt at all what you are looking for, but just a small insight into how someone else punts day to day. I suppose I am a "winning punter", although I rarely play for big stakes, and I certainly don't make a living from it.

Assessing overnight prices and getting yourself the best possible price is a big one too. If you are in it just for profit, you can trade the next day, usually, if you are a decent reader of form.

Other than that, Lay Ellisons if the money comes around 4s-8s, back his if money comes at evens or shorter, Lay Fallon on everything sub 2/1, lay McCoy midweek on everything sub 2/1, and you should be flying.

    Be selective.
That's my advice. Don't just back a horse because it's a group one, or because McCoy or Hughes is on. Try find that horse, whether it be daily or weekly that stands out more than the others. Don't be a sheep here either.

Thanks very helpful. Ive been trying to make a living at it. Not working though. Will take your info on board.
Might write up a few selections Ive picked for tomorrow. Just to see how I get on. I dont usually back favs. But when I do I try find 1 or 2 winners. And throw them into a double or add them to a l15.
I just cant seem to get the right combo most of the time with my big odds picks.

Thats the hard part. Finding ones that stand out. usually when I do its a short price, and not much value in the lay.
But will keep what your saying in mind
    Thanks

Sorry to go on and be preachy, but that is probably your big problem there. The Irish are hooers for needing to stick something into a double haha. If you fancy one, back it. Don't head looking for others to stick it in with. As for the not backing favourites things, if you price one up at 1/3, and its evens, thats "value" I suppose. Doesnt need to be the big price winner, or the big multiple. If you are making your few bob a week, happy days. You will probably lose in the long run at that kind of punting. Sorry to be a ****e.
