Anyone had any experience ordering from GeekBuying.com?

Their prices are pretty good and the shipping arrangements are a heck of a lot better than ChinaPost (as used by most AliBaba merchants, etc.).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

From what I can tell from the pics and the Q&A section on GeekBuying, this is an unbranded version of the Hyundai tablet. One customer asked what the OEM meant at the end of the title. Their response was:
    Thanks for your inquriy.
I'm sorry so late to reply you.
There is no differents between Hyundai T7, only OEM products no logo.
    Hope you enjoy your shopping
    Best Regards!

The pics they have of the device don't have any Hyundai logos either. I'd say buy at your own risk, but it is a steal of a price. Tempted to go for one myself, trying to thing of a use for it though! :D

Yeah i did, I had written all the specs down in the post, and it looked very messy, so i just screencapped them from the site and posted the image.
But yep the Exynos 4412 not quite as good as the RK3188 (As it's older), but beats the cráp out of the Nvidia Tegra 3.

Yep, they are very good to deal with from my experience. I haven't had any problems with them.
Anytime i post something like that about any site, usually someone pops up with a different experience.
But they are well know and used/trusted.

That's common in China. Chinese OEM tablets have been around for a while.
    That wouldn't put me off.

Here is the Hyundai Branded one (Black) for €132
Or the Hyundai White for €114

Seems the battery may be a tad bit poor, 3h 30 mins HD playbook is still decent thou.

I can live with that for the price.

GeekBuying does have a Rep on this website, with their own dedicated forum:

    http://tabletrepublic.com/forum/geekbuying-com/

Going by the overall consensus, they are legit but have poor customer service.

    sorry for late reply
no, i did not bother to sent it back
first of all it took 1 month to arrive with custons charges
if i claime refund then i had to sent it back on my own expenses, wait another month, pay another customs charges so i did not bother
it was a cheaper deal last year €48

Are you sure it was GeekBuying? A lot of Chinese sites look similar.
I find them very fast to get stuff delivered from China.
Never took a month for any of the items i have bought from them.
They also offer to refund you shipping if you send it back in the original box.

You don't pay the 2nd customs charge on a repaired item/return. Just keep your receipt from the Post Office.

Got the mail to say it has been dispatched!

Estimated delivery 15 - 30 business day,

    Think it's being personally delivered.

I think they email that estimate, in case anything delays it. And it is possible that it may take 30 days.

From any of my experience with them it has been ~2 weeks.
Same length of time it takes when i pay for a courier (DHL/UPS etc.) using the other sites.

Hasn't arrived yet, been 10 working days now, expecting it this week surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭thc4me

I got mine yesterday, but I'm in Sweden and I ordered one for me dad in Ireland at the same time, he hasn't heard anything yet, probably customs!
It was marked as a gift with a $20 dollar value on mine.
As far as the tablet goes, I've only had an hour or so to play with it with shes more than I expected. Lovely screen, fast, and works with any of my apps I have tried. I have a galaxy s3 with the same processor and graphics in it so its really fast. I'm just about to update mine to 4.2 so I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes it even better.
    Thanks again OP, much appreciated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 251 ✭✭the_pod

Can you let us know what the battery life is like, how the 4.2 update goes and if your dad has any issues when you get a chance?

    Thanks in advance

Going from previous reviews, the battery appears to be max 3-4 hours HD playback for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭thc4me

Yeah absolutely, I updated to 4.2.2, I haven't done too much research into everything yet but I just folllowed this thread: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/77265-firmware-pre-rooted-hyundai-t7-android-422/
Beware its in Korean or Chinese, excuse my ignorance, but its easy enough to change to english when you know where the settings are. I have to say it feels really nice with 4.2.2, really noticeably smoother. Battery life I can't really comment on yet, as I have been using it plugged in a lot, but from what I've tried I don't think it is that great. The camera is crap and the sound is rather tinny. But the speed, build quality, and screen are fantastic for the money.
By the way when you get it, there are 2 screen protectors on it, a rather obvious layer of plastic, but there is another thicker screen protector as well which if you didn't know was there would be impossible to notice because its so well fitted, I took them off. The wifi range is better than my s3.
Will let you know if I find out any more.

What's the deal with GeekBuying and customs? I found the exact same tablet on another site that I buy from regularly and never get caught with customs, but is €18 more on this site. Just don't know is it worth the risk, or just pay the extra 18 quid.

Also, how much would customs be on €100?

Ah, sorry, my bad. Got it delivered to work in Derry, so not applicable from an Irish Customs/delivery perspective.

Haven't had a right go at it yet. Build quality looks great, sound somewhat tinny, battery life not great, < 3 hours with normal enough usage.

No issue with customs, but that's UK customs

Even with VAT and customs- which you were likely to get hit with come what may- it is still a really really good deal. Its a pity the T10 isn't on a similar offer (I'd bite their hands off, if it were).

No doubt, 100 for what you get is amazing. Extra 20 doesn't spoil it.

No price from customs yet, only emailed them last night!

Got charged 28 euro by customs
22 in vat and 6 for an post admin charge.

Very nice, battery life is poor though
