Just make sure it's the kind of "camp" you think it is.

    Entertained by Dale Winton/Julian Clary/Alan Carr/Graham Norton?

Jeez, half an hour on a Friday night it's bearable, but only just.

I used to go on them as a child around france. i was young so cant offer any advice about price or whatnot, what i CAN tell you is that i saw two stag beetle type things fighting on one of the trips. I will never forget how awesome that was.

    Also try the travel forums.

Have been on the Vendee area of france with Keycamp for the last 4 years and cant recommend them highly enough.

    we have 4 kids, 17, 15, 13 & 9

excellent value for money and the bigger camps have loads to do, some of it even in English......

the mobile homes are usually only 1 or 2 seasons old and in great nic, my only complaint is that when the weather is bad (as can happen) there aren't enough back up blankets.

on site staff helpful and knowledgeable, and there are a load of books, kids games etc at the staff base to borrow.

on site shops and restaurants tend to be more expensive than the local stores.

we drove, and tesco vouchers paid for the Larne Cairnryan ferry and the Chunnel. we break the journey by staying on the outskirts of London for a couple of nights and going into the city for a day to visit the likes of Mme Tusauds & Ripleys (which Tesco pays for too......)

on the way home we've done longleat, and Alton Towers in GB & Park Asterix (SOOOO much better than Disney) in France.... and guess what? Tesco pays for them too!

we love em, and we will be back, though not this year due to other stuff happening.

Went on these holidays every year growing up, vendee, Brittany and Normandy. Normandy is quite rainy though. The big campsites are the best for kids with lots of slides at the pool and big playgrounds etc. Brittany was always my favourite, not too hot, great food and scenery too. There's different size of mobile homes to choose from bit never found any too cramped. They all provide outdoor seating, table and barbecue too.

I would say to head as far south as you can, went to Brittany twice and both times the weather wasn't great. First year it rained for 10 of the days and the other year rained non stop for the first week, as in torrential. The kids were quite young and it was hard to keep them entertained.

I thought this was gonna be about holidays for gay people.

I am thinking of Royan and Gascony Region which I think is far south. Thanks for the info

Yeah went to one of those camp places before but tbh op it was all a bit grim, no craic at all. The beds left a lot to be desired, they were just bare wooden bunks, row upon row. Never going to Dachau again, was ****.

Le grande metairie, Carnac in south Brittany with Keycamp and going back this summer, loved every minute of it including the ferry from Ringaskiddy, the ferry is 2 overnights but work in perfect to the holiday with a lot to do while on board. This thread has put me right in the mood for a local sparkling cider!!!

It's cheap and if you have a family particulary, there'll be plenty to do.

One of best things we did was get a camper van when I was younger and drive around France, going from camp site to camp site along the way.
Great way to see a country!

Have you considered Italy? We went with keycamp to a place canned San Vincenzo in Tuscany. Fantastic place. Great facilities, but the one in Lake Guarda is supposed to be better. The downside of San Vincenzo is the lack of transfers from Piza airport to San Vincenzo. No direct links, but the hire car is worth it, well worth it. We would drive for an hour or two without the sat nav until we found a nice spot, spend a couple of hours and turn on the sat nav to get back.

Can't recommend them enough. I've been to their sites for the last 5 years and am going again this year.

The La Palmyre one down near Royan is amazing, beautiful setting in a pine forest. Has great pool complex, nice bar (watched the final match of the Lions tour there 4 years ago), and a half decent restaurant. They give you gas barbecues too.

La Grand Metairie near Carnac is also excellent, although being Brittany you can't guarantee the weather! Again, a great pool complex and a great bar. Although I diodn't particularly rate the on-siote restaurant in that one. Mind you, there's so much stuff nerarby it's not a problem

We're heading a bit further south this year, right down to the Spanish border near Perpignan, at a place called Argeles Plage - anyone been to that one before?

Probably the best thing is about them, if you have family, is the kid's club. Our eldest (nearly 9) really enjoyed it, she's looking forward to going again this year and her younger sister is old enough to go too. Bliss (for me and their mother!).

Will you be doing fly-drive? If so, that opens up a lot of options.

We had a fantastic holiday in Germany at this site: http://www.canvasholidays.ie/germany/germany/de02b/camping-landal-warsberg

and in Switzerland at this site: http://www.canvasholidays.ie/switzerland/switzerland/sw02j/camping-manor-farm

A lot of our holiday was taken up by all the fantastic activities and tourist attractions near by.

Keycamp may have a presence on these sites too, I'm not sure as I've never used them.

We went to St jean de Monts in Vendee for a few years with the kids, the weather can be iffy, depends on the time of year. Its a great holiday for kids, much more relaxing than the package hols imo.

Do it and you won't be sorry.
We have two girls and have been out to French campsites for 10 years.
Sequoia Parc and Le littoral are my personal favourites though thaer are so many to choose from its great. We bring the car and it means there is no hassle traveling at all.

Am counting down the days now :)
