Hey guys, I've finally bought myself a decent drive, a 2006 Volvo S60 T5. She's got all the goodies, like leather and heated seats. The best bit is the sound system though which is the best I've ever heard in a car. What's the best way to connect my phone to the audio system to take calls and play music? Is it even possible? I heard you can take calls or play music but not both. Is this true? Assistance appreciated.

Does your car have a factory-fitted phone kit? I bought a secondhand 2003 S60 2.0T with no factory car kit and when I got a guy to fit a bluetooth Nokia car kit, he informed me that the Volvos have no mute terminal on the radio so an after-market car kit couldn't mute the radio on an incoming call.

Could be different for the 06 models but that's the situation I discovered and it was confirmed by other sources, at least for the 2003 S60.

Next time the dealer salesman rang me about an upgrade, I told him I'd never touch a Volvo again if that was the kind of stunt they pulled to punish people who refused to pay through the nose for a factory phone kit. So far it's the only make of car I've discovered with that (absent) feature.

Thanks for the reply although that's not good news. Mine ispretty much the same as yours so I'll have the same problem. I think mine is facelifted with the orange front lights but little difference apart from that. How do you find it otherwise?

The radio works on a canbus system so the normal aux leads and Bluetooth won't work, have a look on the bay for a canbus to ipod/phone adaptor. Won't be cheap though about 100 sterling.
As for the phone installer saying that the radio can't be muted I would get another installer, a little black box of tricks can be fitted behind the radio for about 20 quid

Thanks Mike, looking now. Something tells me that this is not going to be easy.

You can get mute leads for the Volvo radio's, and I think they've come down in price quite a lot. Used to be around €120 just for the mute lead, to work with a Parrot, but my fitter said they are now a lot cheaper.

You just need to figure out which version of the radio you have, as the different radios use different leads. If you get the wrong leads for the radio it will keep blowing fuses when you get a call.
