Employers haven't heard of university

While I'm on, just have a quick question about universities and prestige. A lot of employers in England, especially my field, would be fairly fussy about where you went to university. I went to Trinity and part of the reason I did that was because I thought it was more prestigious and better known than the ex-poly I would have gone to in England. I basically underestimated how well I'd do in my A Levels and aimed far too low, so my grades were well over the offer I received and at that stage it was too late to get into a better uni through the UCAS system. I applied to Trinity at the last minute and got in - grand.

The issue I'm having now is that lots of employers haven't heard of TCD and seem to think it's some no-name place. I was at an open day the other week and an employer was all impressed with people saying they went to Warwick and Bristol. When I said I went to Trinity, he didn't know it at all and I found that really frustrating because it's the best-rated university in Ireland (or it was at the time). I'm surprised how few people know it over here. What can I do about it? Anything?

unfortunately not a lot, most employers these days hire experience over education its stupid people have to start somewhere..

try getting a unpaid job to gain experience or get a job well under your qualifications to get your foot in

    good luck

When applying for jobs outside of ireland you could put some information in your cover letter about trinity and its reputation. Use the full name on your CV " University of Dublin" in case they think its not a university.

When I email my CV my employer and university names are all clickable URL's.

I'd put the name on cv in full simply because you can't depend on a disinterested hr temp to click on URL

Odd, I have worked for several multinationals over the years (all ICT) and found a sizeable number of my colleagues from GB and mainland Europe would be aware of TCD and it's legacy.
