I know speedos (not the skimpy swimming togs) aren't that accurate but I wanted to be as certain as possible I didn't get 2 points and a fine this morning.

I was on cruise control set at 106kph (100kph limit) and passed Gardai with the tripod mounted camera. Always get a bit of a surprise when I see them even now.

I fired up my GPS this evening and the 106kph on the cruise control equates to 63mph and the limit is 62mph.

Hopefully I've nothing to be worried about?

It's illegal for a speedo to indicate a lower than actual speed, but they're allowed to read high by 10% of actual speed, plus (for cars) 6 km/h. This is before you get into subtle gearing changes caused by different/partially worn tyres, since most modern-ish yokes drive the speedo from the gearbox countershaft or even electronically from the ECU. You'll find most of 'em are calibrated nice and high so the manufacturer doesn't have to put up with a load of bullhockey lawsuits about speeding fines. ;)

In short, I wouldn't worry about it.
