Woodcock breeding

Was out yesterday checking grey crows nests, signs of foxes etc & stumbled on what I thought was a clutch of young pheasants along a ditch. Turned out it was a clutch of well fledged woodcock.
What was really interesting was an adult bird flew on ahead of me feigning injury or pretending to be a young one cause it kept landing ahead of me 3 or 4 times & then got up & flew when I was well away from where I met them first. Thing is I wasn't following it, it kept landing 20 ft in front of me!

A first for me but concrete evidence of them breeding here :)

No the days I bring it nothing happens & the odd time something does.
I really should just have it all the time as not having it to catch 1 of the lads falling into a drain awhile back was 1 major regret! :D

Was bucketing rain all day if that had anything to do with it, the woodcock that is!

Lovely bird - I noticed during the fine spell at the start of this month, 2 roding Woodcock over the forestry across the road from my few acres in North Mayo. I'd like to think they are breeding in there on the back of such evidence, but getting 100% conformation of the type you were lucky enough to find is very hard for such a secretive bird.
