if someone uploads an artists song to youtube, who gets paid?

    Just wondering who gets paid: Take the link below, a lad has uploaded 'City cant hold us' by Macklemore, and got a whopping 63 million views. Who gets the cash for that?

    Surely as its macklemores song, he gets paid?

    Lad may get some money if theres ads on it, dont think Macklemore would see much of it it. And Youtube of course, they'll make money.

    Is that how it works?

    I'm not sure what Macklemore gets from it but the uploader doesn't benefit as it's not his original content.

    Copyright holder can choose to a) redirect people to their video, b) get royalties for the upload or c) get it removed.

    Uploader won't benefit unless he puts ads over the video (the tiny Ads by Google you see at the bottom).

    The artist won't get paid either but I think they can have it removed or maybe try to get a piece of the uploader's share.

    Youtube will get paid for ads on the page.

    I would prefer to film something like the Amphibious Duck which sank in the Albert Dock on Friday and send it to the BBC to make a few quid :cool:
