Going interrailing with a mate this summer (July - August). This is our first time interrailing so I just want some advice on our route. Flying into Madrid - Barcelona - Nice - Rome - Bled - Budapest - Vienna - Prague - Berlin - cologne - flight from Maastricht. Is this a little ambitious given the fact we want to spend a but if time in each city? Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

Right, so I'm thinking of packing my bags and hitting the tracks of Europe from around the 9th August - 30th August. I've never inter-railed before but really excited about the prospects. Just looking to enjoy the adventure, meet loads of new people and laugh out loud a lot. :D

I really don't mind what counties I visit, I'm thinking that I'll start in central Europe but I would like to visit Sweden at some stage of the trip, if the logistics allow. Anyway, I'm open to anything that is thrown my way. I'll be travelling solo on this adventure so if it's something you're thinking about too let me know.

I'm 30 since May and I figured, it's about time I saw some more of Europe and less of this emerald isle that I love so much...just for a change. :)

Thinking of interrailing in September and trying to tie down where to visit. At the moment we're thinking of doing Krakow-Ostrava-Brno-Bratislava-Budapest over 2 weeks. Has anyone done a similar route before? And, if so, any changes or recommendations? :D

First poster, you're probably gone at this stage so advice unlikely to be helpful.

Explorer03, go for it. I've been on four interrailing trips over the years and all great. Absolutely fine on your own. Everyone has their highlights, mine were definitely Berlin, Prague and Krakow. Sweden might be tough to get to as ?you'll have to go up to Denmark and get that train/ferry over the sea. Also Sweden is more expensive.

Shteve, your loop sounds great but 5places in 14 days, excluding a day to arrive and a day to depart, means you'll be moving fast.

Challo, cheers for the update. Much appreciated. Just working on another route now so might leave out Sweden and try stay more central. Thinking of starting in Paris and moving from there.

I might post any questions I come up with here again. Cheers.

I'd advise against Paris as a starting point. It's probably the most expensive city in mainland Europe (only really rivaled by Copenhagen or one of the Swiss cities).
