Chech the spec of the tektro's if they are long reach. I know that on the SCR frame (the one before deffy) doesn't take standard calipers without modifications. For long reach there are specific models of calipers.

There's not much wrong with most Tektro calipers, the Tiagra's won't stop you from 50 kph any quicker.Depending on the model of Tektro caliper you have, the Tiagra's might have a more polished finish to the alloy,so might look better?

they're the Tektro TK-R340 Giant Specific. They seem a little spongy and I was wondering if the Tiagra would lessen that. They're a good price currently on CRC at 27 yoyo's. Not sure on the specs, can't seem to find them.

To be honest it sounds like you'd be better off replacing the pads/shoes or maybe the cables.

Have replaced the pads and shoes already. Would the cables make that big a difference?

The R541's are long reach and will probably fit just about anything.

However they're a very basic brake and not much of an upgrade. You'd be better off upgrading to a cartridge type pad (if you haven't already!) such as this, this or this (preferably the Shimano).

I have the Clarkes pads and shoes. Not that big a fan to be honest and probably upgrading to this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/swissstop-flash-pro-green-high-performance-blocks/ today. I was looking at the Ultegra calipers too for €50 each.

clarkes pads are (imho) barely adequate for stopping. The swissstop are quite good. I have a set on a bike running tektro calipers and it stops me reasonably well.

thanks everyone. Decision made. Going to go for the Ultegra Calipers and the Swisstop pads and shoes.

Well, if your current ones are snagging or whatever, yeah they would.

I've no idea if your current cables need replacing mind, I just know it can help.

the ultegra calipers should come with ultegra pads, which iirc are cartridge pads. Try them out before spending and extra 50 odd quid on the swissstops. Mrs lenny has them on her bike and finds them way better than the non cartridge ones that were on there before.
