Well guys can anyone advise me on where to send the parents for a holiday. Myself and the sister were thinking of treating them with a surprise holiday for maybe a weekend or week away somewhere in England or Scotland or even the North (recession and all that). I know your thinking we're cheap skate but they wouldn't last in a plane longer than an hour.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah was thinking Edinburgh myself. Is it near the Highlands or am I completely wrong?

You'd be talking a 3 or 4 hour drive to get to the Highlands.
Lots to see and do for a weekend in Edinburgh itself.

    Edinburgh is a great suggestion.

Its about an hours drive from The Highlands.

Avoid August however. The place will be packed and hotels booked out or very pricey for the festivals.

Do your parents drive? If so the other end of Britain will suit them perfectly. Devon, Cornwall and Somerset is a beautiful part of the world.

Bath is meant to be a lovely spot- haven't been but hear plenty of people raving about it- you can fly into Bristol airport.

Actually on that, Bristol is also quite a nice little city, spent a couple of days there in October and I'd definitely go back for a weekend - it's also (as Kittywake said) close to Bath.

I'd also second Edinburgh, I was there a couple of weeks ago for 3 days and had plenty to do. It's a really lovely city and close to the sea.

Thanks for the replies guys. I plan on hitting the travel agents tonirrow and discussing all the places mentioned. Very surprised in how popular Edinburgh is. What would your opinion be on London, is it worth visiting?

London is always worth a visit, there is huge amount of stuff to see and do. It can be quite expensive though so if on a budget, I'd stick with the smaller cities myself.
