I just got a job and today was my first day.

When I got the call the manager said that it would be a "20 hour contract"..

I am paid by the month, but here is the strange thing, I did 4 hours today and now I am not in work until next Wednesday which is another 4 hours and then Friday for another 4 hours?

Would that contract be a 20 hour a month one or is that even legal?, because I thought it would be a 20 hour a week but I only got 4 hours today on my first week and now I am only getting 8 hours on my second week?

My roster was not up yet so I had to ring earlier to get my hours off of the manager who sounded busy so I didn't ask about this...

    Can anyone help?

    I would expect it's 20 hours/week - but could be wrong.

You really do need to ask your manager, it may be that your hours are low because they're still training you and putting you on't the rosters.

And yes, 20 hours/month would be legal, porvided they're clear about it.

Well when I was in for 4 hours I was just being showed what to do out the back but was told that I could be put any where in the shop so maybe your right, It might be the hours are low because of the training?
