Anyone hear if any of the Kites released in Dublin attempted to breed this year? This is their second summer so maybe some of them at least attempted it!

That info is usually announced on the Golden eagle website in early autumn once all the chicks have fledged

Absolutely correct and proper. Nest sites will neither be confirmed nor discussed until safe.

Just wanted to post to say I saw a Kite today, this seems to be most recent thread about them. I got quite excited when I spotted it, big bird, didn't know what it was til a bit of googling but pretty certain now as i definitly remeber the v notch shaped tail. Spotted in skerries, north county dublin, he was coming from direction of sea and I think I spotted him again circling over a nearby field of allotments.

You see them very regularly around there. On a sunny day, you can see mixed groups of buzzards and kites, soaring in circles. From a distance, they are roughly similar in size and shape but the notch in the tail is easy to see.

Photos of Red Kites being tagged in Wikla.

I see that the highest number wing tag is 60, does anyone know if this mean there were at least 60 Red Kite chicks tagged this year ?

Shouldn't be confirmed or discussed safe or not full stop.

Have seen a single red kite on two occasions in June this year, flying at just over tree height over Balcarrick & Donabate Golf Courses.

Have also seen buzzards, much more frequently, hovering at much greater height around the same area.

Also saw a pair of red kites flying through the trees along the road whilst driving on Hearse Road towards Donabate about a year ago. Up close, they are a formidable looking bird.

Have never seen red kites hovering, as reported by other posters. Any time I've seen them they have been actively flying (i.e. flapping their wings with some gliding), whereas buzzards seem to do as little wing flapping as possible and mostly glide and hover, after some initial flying. But then I've only been watching out for kites since I read of their release in Newbridge Park about 2 years ago.

Saw a red kite today on the R125 about a mile from Kettles Hotel towards Ashbourne. It was flying / gliding just over tree height - very distinct with its forked tail.

I lived near a UK release site. Most of the farmers were OK but there were a few. I recorded a video of the Kites feeding on Earthworms in a ploughed field & ignoring the lambs nearby.
