    Hi there
My old nokia is kaput so I've finally decided to upgrade to a smartphone. I have no idea about this stuff. I need a basic phone, and want to be able to check emails and use google. Don't need a camera or anything fancy. Has anyone got any advice on phones that are in the shops right now. I've had a look at the nokia lumia 520 but was warned off it by a geek person.
    Thanks in advance
    Ruth

Thanks for that. Looks good and has good reviews too. So do I just buy it off amazon and it's not locked or anything? Can you insure it then? Sorry for all the questions but I've no idea!

It might be locked but if it is you can get an unlock code from Ebay emailed to you.

Don't know anything about insurance but I wouldn't bother insuring a phone at this price point. Also Amazon has a great customer service.

What reasons were you given to avoid the Nokia Lumia 520?

that it wouldn't have as many apps cos it's locked into the deal with microsoft? That means very little to me but a few people said it. Personally I like the look of it and it's in my price range...so i'm open to be convinced otherwise.

Also with that G300, there are some good reviews but lots of ones saying that the phone freezes and resets itself to factory setttings and not to buy it. That isn't something i want in a new phone!

Herself has the G300, for nearly a year. Has froze but olny once or twice and has never restored itself. There is a thread on them here somewhere.
I was in your position a year ago, looking to get into basic smart phones. I got a galaxy mini and still have it. it does me, email, google, twitter, notes etc. Im sure a newer samsung would be grand.

heres a thread on the G300...
