any recommendations where to go for bike repairs in Galway City or County?

I didn't service the bike properly, it spent a significant amount of time in a coastal area (sand and salt water) and the gears mechanism on the back wheel completely seized up and part snapped off.
The brake cable is also seized but that is only a minor repair.

Bike is a town bike, a Daws Duchess ... I don't want to have to spend a total fortune on it!!
    thanks!

You could DIY it still but both Westside Cycles and Kearnes on Headford Rd, by Terryland are good.

An older thread with more recommendations..

Daws Duchess lovely bike btw, I have a similar gents model - the Ambassador.

    +1 for west side cycles.

    Quick and reasonable.

have always found Derrick in www.onyourbikecycles.com to be very sound, very fair with his prices and reliable.

OnYerBike - that's where I left the bike today in the end, it's right beside where I work. Price quoted seemed reasonable too.

I have used Halfords for over 3 years and find Bernard brilliant - they do a bike care plan for €25 which includes a free service and all labour charges are free (assuming you buy any parts you need in Halford). I know some Halfords have a bad name but the one in Galway is outstanding!

kearneycycles.com is a good place to go for repairs (and bikes). Martin Kearney has been in the bike business a very long time and has excellent mechanics working for him. They've always looked after my bikes well.

I go to MBW in Moycullen ! Gary and Eric are absolutely superb. Them boys built me a set of wheels from scratch and very few lads can do that now in Galway !

They seviced my 30 year old Camag hubs as well and the wheels are 100% .. Again thats a job that very few are able to do correctly !

I bought a few bikes in Kearneys last year - I found them great. Very good prices compared to the other bike shops, definitely the cheapest. I researched them all too. Also very good with follow up repairs and customer service. No hesitation in recommending them.

I just wanted to try somewhere else. TBH, I thought i was looking a substantial cost for repairs and thought I might get a better quote in a place that was less of a shop and more of a repair place.
I'll post back when i collect my bike.

I've been buying more of my parts and accessories in Kearneys and less online over time. My experience (unexpectedly) has been he's less expensive than any online shop for the stuff I need. And he has a lot of product upstairs and can usually put his hands on the right thing if he doesn't have it on display.

He's the same on repairs - practical and inexpensive. But I've also gotten a couple of jobs done in OYB prospect hill when I've been passing by and they've been grand. I'll only let Kearney's touch the roadbike though.

Kearneys and Nigels for me in town or MBW if I'm willing to trek out there, all of them are competent and reasonable.

I said I'd report back here ... On Yer Bike did a great job, charged me about half of what I was expecting to pay .. and then gave me a discount!!

Straightened wheel (had been told elsewhere I'd need a new one at about €80), replaced a siezed brake cable and fixed the Shimano derailer - all for way less then 40 yoyos ....

Very Impressed!!! all the family bikes are going in there from now on

I go to MBW in Moycullen, well worth the spin out and have to say my bikes never skip a beat... After having been to a few other shops wouldn't go anywhere else...
