Thinking of buying one,2009/2010,any idea how are they fuel economy wise? Have a 2006 petrol model at the moment.

Are you talking about the latest model or the one before it? The diesel engine was carried over from the old model to the new but they were tweaked for lower emissions including the addition of a DPF.

It will definitely be better on fuel than your old petrol model but the real question is do you drive enough miles annually and is your type of driving style suitable for a diesel car?

That works out at about 26k km per year which is within diesel territory alright.

Should see a 40% or so improvement in mpg......only major problem with the Avensis Diesel is the Dual-Mass-Flywheel, not specific to the Avensis applies to almost any modern diesel (and some petrols).
Other than that they are pretty good.
As mentioned, they do have a DPF so a good drive now and again will help keep the bills down.

We sold a 2009 diesel Avensis recently and traded in a 2007 petrol Avensis. According to the customer their fuel bill has very nearly halved.

Only a problem on the earlier models (2004- early 2006) Not an issue on the later ones. Taximen racking up 400k + and never replacing flywheels.

Had to replace a clutch / flywheel on my 6spd facelift 07 after 100kkm and will be due again soon (can feel it)

Dmf is just a consumable on modern diesels

right, did a few test drives the weekend, the avensis is a smashing car on the road no doubt, also drove a corolla 1.4 diesel,11 reg,was surprised how solid it was on the road and i am told they are very economical to run(up to 55/60 mpg).
the corolla doesnt have the same gizmos as the avensis obviously but was impressed with it.anyone have any opinions on the corolla diesel?
