Any hint at when these are going to be available?

Looking at the 8350 but might consider holding out for that one..

I wonder what's it like for gaming (ARMA3, etc) and application (Photoshop, Vegas, Autogiga, etc) use?

I was going to get a 3930k as an upgrade to my current rig but this could be tempting to switch back and pull my crosshair v out of the wardrobe :). Hopefully its released soon

"In addition to its next-generation APUs unveiled last week, AMD has announced the FX-9590 — the world's first 5GHz processor made available to consumers. While experienced overclockers have been able to drive other chips to 5GHz, this is the first part to come stock at that frequency. It features an 8-core "Piledriver" architecture and ships unlocked, so PC users can push the clock even farther. The company also announced the FX-9370, which features the same 8-core architecture, but comes at a slightly lower clock of 4.7GHz.

Pricing and release information have not been disclosed."

Supposedly it is 4.7GHz with 5GHz turbo, so at those frequencies so you could expect similar performance to this FX8350 @4.9GHz.

Still even if it is a moderate refresh incorporates some of the piledriver core power consumption improvements seen on Richland, where 5GHz + overclocks are very achievable, and has a decent price it might be worth a look. I have even see an few A10-6800K running @5.2-5.4 GHz on air

You'd still likely need a decent board to run this, I can't see the CPU support list changing for too many non 990 boards.

Sounds quite promising so.. If it's 5.0Ghz out of the box, with the improvements seen in Richland.. you could start pushing 6.0GHz with enough cooling..

Yeah, personally I'm excited to see what this beholds!

Not long since I built a pc with a 3570k but it's still very interesting watching as technology unfolds and improves year after year!

Probably a monster when it comes to power consumption too :P

It's good news, I think, for AMD, though. With improved multi-threading, despite lower per-clock performance, when we see 5+ghz on air vs ~4.4 on Haswell ~4.5/6 on Ivy Bridge it begins looking good for AMD.

Its only an OEM part right now no word on a general consumer release..

    According to reddit..

220W to run it.. Supposedly costs over $800.. OEM only for now

^ Couldn't find any sources to confirm the above

I read much the same in a news article some months ago.

In that case, I'll more than likely stick to a 8350, or potentially even a 8320 :)

We need a thumbs down feature on boards if this is true about price :(. I would say that's only speculation though.

More than likely. Taking with a pinch spoon of salt

Hopefully they bring out eatx boards again for am3 now to allow better cooling of the board

I've seen that rumour before, I think it is fair to say it is quite unlikely to be true, because OEM system builders wouldn't have any use for an $800 CPU. If it was just an overclocked FX8350 to 5GHz I could see the 200W+ TDP being plausible, but again I think this part would have to be a piledriver refresh that will come in a bit lower on the juice than that (ie. Still very high but not thathigh).

TBH unless this was the same price as an i7-4770K it would be a rip off, much less $800.

OEM's like Falcon North West not Dell :P

    Also for BF4 fans:

Battlefield 4 will be exclusively optimized for AMD Radeon GPUs, AMD A-Series APUs and AMD FX CPUs!

I've an FX 8350 I use photoshop and light room bridge and indesign, i play dayz never had any lag in cherno and honestly its a beast it exported 2766 picture at hi res jpeg ready for print in 45 minutes not over clocked its a fantastic peace of kit/bang for buck.

My boss has a mac pro and has 2.5 ghz quad core seeing the results i got in terms of productivity has made him rethink and move to pc with amd.
