    Class.
Just throwing this out there, did you consider raffling it instead of auctioning? Just wondering could you make more money on it in a raffle. Can you do an online raffle or do you need a licence? It's just I find myself looking at it thinking yeah I'd like that...I'd never buy it but I'd gamble a fiver or maybe a tenner to try win it.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way...

I'd second the above post! Happy to throw a fiver in the ring for the chance to win and support wav junior.

Raffle is better imo, I did it with a fully signed Mayo jersey last year for our 1lifecycle 500km trip and it raised a lot of money.

I presume since it is on ebay already it is too late, bid placed regardless

You have no legal obligation to follow through with an ebay sale, it would be bad form maybe but you aren't obliged to unless you receive the money, you can back out at any stage up until then with no comeback. Only problem is you might get a bad rating.

I'm also pretty sure you can withdraw items from ebay?

If it is taken down and put as a raffle, I will buy a few tickets.

as one of the bidders I would have no objections to it being raffled. I do think that more money could be raised with a raffle.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭RobFowl

AFAIK you need a permit to hold a raffle.
A lot of paperwork and organisation......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭killalanerr

To be honest i never thought of a raffle i was just looking for a way to raise a few bob for a good cause im not sure of the legalities of running an online raffle but i will keep it in mind for the future,
Im going to let the auction run,its a very interesting bit of kit between that and a good cause it will be interesting to see what it makes

Suppose depends whether boards a closed club or not! If not it's a very long winded process!

Raffle tickets sold exclusively at an event (e.g. concert, show, jumble sale) also fall in this category and
    do not need a licence.

If the raffle runs in a Pub with a band playing, you are covered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

We'll just have to organise a boardsie hill climb meet or something!

I'd also go in for a raffle ticket by the by.

Although in fairness, the auction is going pretty well by the looks of things.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,530 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Well damnit if I haven't increased my bid again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Slo_Rida

Is there any law against us putting a tenner in someones a paypal or bank account and that someone (with some effort) drawing those names out of a hat and posting us a prize? Just spitballing here!!
Anyway...the only objective here is to raise the max amount of money for the guy. More power to your money raising.

Overwhelmed by all your support for the lad and a huge thanks from all the family. To Killalaner for this initiative and to robfowl for the other skinsuit also a huge thanks and much appreciated.
Just a small update on his progress out there. He's getting on great and on Wed they did a 120km spin in 37 degs of heat at an average of nearly 39kph which included intervals.Normally he would reduce his insulin rate while racing by about 50%.On Wed he rode the entire spin with a reduced insulin intake of 100% [none at all] and went and felt better than previous. All part of being with the experts who know a whole lot more than either of us does. This part of the trip is what i am particularly pleased about. He rides a crit tomorrow night somewhere in North Carolina, and then a 128km road race on Sunday. He together with a French guy,an American, and a Scottish rider will form the Novo Nordisk team for the Junior Tour of Ireland from July 2nd to 7th.So its all good so far and thanks again for everything including your interest in his progress.

It probably is Beasty's actual money. He's well known for spending money on all kinds of useless crap for good causes.

Wo Wo Wo wait a minute...do you mean to tell me that this jersey won't be seen out in the vet TT leages or CLub TT leagues?
If I had got my hands on it (had it been raffled) I was going to purchase a spanky new TT bike just so that I could "use" it.

    Useless my @rse!!!!

Also hats off to killaneer for buying it and then doing this, a better man than me by far.

Massive thanks to Killalaner and everybody involved here.It takes a lot to shut me up but im speecless tbh.
He currently is riding a series of crits Thur,Fri,Sat,and Sunday. The Dairyland series I think its called.Anyway last night he had his best result to date when he was first jun in a race that contained the whole development team also.Average speed 44kph.They have worked with him in the blood sugar controls, also totally changed his position on the bike, and helped him greatly. They have already invited him back.He comes home this week and then its the Junior Tour on Tues week. All very exciting for him and il get him to post up some of his story and adventures later in the week.Again THANK YOU.

    Good luck to him.........

So the journey continues for him.Just back from Ennis having delivered him in to the care of the Novo Nordisk team as they get ready to ride the Junior Tour. He's really up for this race as his stint in the states has built up his confidence no end and he feels he has much better control of his blood sugar levels so his head is in a new place. He came home on Tues morning having rode crits on four straight days Thur,Fri.Sat,and Sun.He went from a nervous wreck starting out to throwing the bike in to the corners by Sunday. He rode the Stephen Roche on Wed night [He wouldn't by his own admission lasted a lap last yr]and got around in the bunch no problem. He had tweaked his insulin intake as advised.Said it was mundane compared to America.Talk about a change in a chap.Really hope he can make it round the Junior Tour this week,as it would be his dream. Will keep ye posted.

A final update on this the skin suit is now in a secret private collection of sporting memorabilia,a sum above the ebay price was handed over to team WAV in exchange for the yellow jersey, other than to say that the buyer is a fellow boardie and so following the board rules they will remain anonymous unless they choose to ID themselves
I want thank all who bid i am blown away by peoples generosity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,923 ✭✭✭wav1

Well what a week that was.Delivered him to Team Novo Nordisk on the Sat before the race.Travelled back down on Tues morning with my own team.T T kicked it off on Tues evening on an out and back course with a technichal start /finish made worse by the rain.He got round in one piece.Stage 2 on Wed was the longest of the race with 5 x cat 3 climbs. He dug in really well all day and finished in a group of 12 who were about 8 minutes down on the stage winner.Thur saw stage 3 heading in to West Clare and a real hard day.Best stage to date for him as there were only about 35 left in the lead group at the finish from 73 starters and guess what?He was in that group. He set out on Stage 4 [the queen stage] with a new found confidence.Dug in deep all day and when the splits came on the cat 1 climb he found himself in a group of 13 who rode really hard to the finish and lost only about 6 minutes.Stage 5 on Saturday was the shortest of the race but still had 4 climbs to contend with.A bunch gallop with a nasty corner 250 mtrs from the finish was the result and he got his best placing 23rd in the stage.Smiley face time again.Sun was the last stage and once again he rode really well reaching the final 3km climb to the finish safely in the bunch and then trucked on up to finish the Junior Tour in a final position of 41st from the 73 starters.
Quite simply none of this would have happened without his stint with the Novo Nordisk team. The little bits of info picked up here and there in relation to the insulin intake etc has been invalueable. The team had 3 in the top 25 on Saturday and the management team were really happy with the lads.Just to show with the right info, back up etc they can mix it with the rest of them.As the team motto says changing diabetis is what their all about.Phil Southerland who founded the team already wants them taken to Europe next month for more of the same,so its onwards and upwards on his journey.
Again many thanks to all here on boards who got involved in his adventure.Watch this space.

Hope he continues to improve with the team. Great work by him. It's great that they've helped him but he still had to do all that suffering last week himself, super stuff.
