I have in my possession a mini digger. Its a komatsu. . .

running well, bit smoky, tad bit leaky.

    but that's all i have/know about it . .

it was resprayed in the last ten years. .. its in good nick like. . .cab 90% like. . radio and lights all bombing away. ..

anyway. . . this evening (wet evening) i scanned the whole machine for Nos/model/serial etc. .

I found out that its a komatsu PC20 manufactured around 1992.

this is my exact machine below.

    http://zizengineering.com/machineinfo/komatsu/-pc_20-1992-construction_machine-caterpillar_digger.html

i have spent 2-3 hours looking for information on the web. .. maybe a service manual, even to buy. .. but no luck..

the model is PC20 or PC20-1 . . .. i have seen plenty for PC20-5/PC20-6 but they look like completely different machines. . . .

what is my next move. . ?

basically, . . . Id love to change the oil filter etc. . . maybe do a service. . . . . but dont know what parts etc to buy. .. :(

Im not expecting much replies. . as i know its a long shot. . . but sher. . . if I dont ask ill never know.. .

I had one of those a decade or more ago - was a great little machine with a long dipper arm. Bought and used in the UK and unfortunately I didnt have a manual or anything either. Steel tracks. I'm sure we managed to find all the various grease nipples etc. and keep it stuffed full.. and it seemed to go on regardless.

Don't remember whether the engine was also Komatsu?

Jays no, its not for sale. Would be lost without it. . .

Never knew how beneficial it is for a farm to have. .

Can't recommend one enough. Make sure its metal tracks. 3 to 4 tonne

No bother . Thanks for the advice.
I have recently got some land that hasn't been drained or cleared in decades.
I was thinking of buying a mini digger to start tidying up.
How much would you want to spend to something decent?
I figure jcb ( back actor type) is out as wheels wouldn't be great if ground is soft .
I was thinking 3 tonne so I could load it onto plant trailer ( as land is about 10 miles from home)

Other option is a big auld Hymac.
What would you suggest ( having had the 10 yrs experience)
    I

Can anybody advise if a 1.5 tonne track machine is any use or would a 3 or 4 tonne be necessary to get any decent work done ?
I haven't much experience with either but was thinking of buying one to tidy up the land, clear drains & reclaim some land that hasn't seen a machine in decades.

5/6 years of experience of 3ton mini digger and i say get a 10-12t machine. You could lift tree stumps, lift 0.5t bags of fert, get a pallet fork for the front - more or less for the same money

    3ton end of

1.5ton is a shovel attached to a joy stick

I had a 3t kubota (kx 61-2A) for the last 5/6 years. Anyway bold me has never serviced it ever , it gets grease and oiled but thats all. oh and antifreeze and new tracks (Rubber) . oh in my time she has had max 200 hours on her.

Price around for parts. massive difference. For example

1 x Rubber track in south of Ireland €615
    2 x Rubber track in north - (€400 each) €800
Sold the 2nd hand oone on the digger for €250 equals 2 new tracks for price of 1 . Have the broken one for sale :P

There is 6 filters on my machine and its just at 2200 hours now. Its a 2006 machine.
Place in Naas and Cork wanted €345 for the 6 filters
Place in UK want €149 delivered to the door.

    The filters are
    Engine Oil
    Fuel Filter
    Hydralic Oil In
    Hydralic Oil Out
    Air Filter
    Cab air filter

Her plant trailer is leaving the workshop tonight after a new floor, brakes and small tidy up. Then the digger is going in for her tidy up.

    Above service.
Replace a bulb light over the cab
Fix a mirror (Glass popped out)
    Grease everything
    Probably redo anti freeze

what price would you be paying for a reasonable condition 3 or 5 ton kubota/yanmar/decent make?

In my youth I done serious work around here with a 3t

    Iakill,
Thanks for the recommendation about size ( I.e. not 1.5 tonne )
I will keep an eye out for a decent 3 or 4 tonne.
Is there good value in the uk?
Can you recommend any websites to watch?

What would you be looking to pay for a decent 3-4 ton machine? Something for farm work or a little contract work?

You can get most of the filters are the motor factors for these machines. don't even go near the main dealers.

I got a deal on two quality McLaren tracks in from Germany last month delivered for €1070. Tracks here were being quoted here at 560 + Vat and they were Chinese quality. Good tracks were being quoted at 740+Vat.

Who are you dealing with up North. I will need a new sprocket wheel and top roller shortly.

Was in at the main dealer for Kubota last year. They told me a customer had been in the previous week looking for a part for a KX "something" - 5......I can't remember the full number.

Problem was there was never a Kubota of that model number made. They reckoned it was stolen, given a new nameplate with a new fictitious serial number and model number so it couldn't be traced.

I am looking for something for my own farm work only. I have no plans for contract work.
I don't know what the going rate is.
I would prefer to get something older & reliable rather that newer for the sake of it.
I won't be spending mad money as it would need to justify buying one versus getting someone in to do the work

I got a new Sprocket wheel in a hurry last year from the crowd in Cork. I think it was 180 euro. I'll have to check the price. It's a KH 60 Kubota.

The problem with my sprocket is there is wear on the splines on the drive shaft that is eating away the sprocket wheel. The outside teeth are fine (track drive).

The miniexcavator company in England bring them in from 'abroad' and finish machine them on site. I suspect they are the suppliers to many of the companies in Ireland.
