    See the title.

    I say B.S.

My wife was told this when her phone was acting up.

    Yup, not possible...

Most likely the ROM has a few bugs....

I had an issue after flashing a rom once years ago, where my sim card can't transmit it's number, as the phone didn't seem to recognise it. This issue carried on with the phone I have now. There wasn't an issue prior to flashing the phone, so yeah, a rom can do something to the sim, but won't stop it from working.

It used to be advised to remove the sim card prior to flashing, although I'm not too sure how relevant that may be these days.

Other than constantly stuck with a hidden phone number, my sim presented no other issues, so never bothered replacing it.

Simple solution: put the sim in a different phone. Does it work? Not the sim so

Or there is a separate fault with the sim that presented at the same time. Unless the software over clocked it, and it overheated, I can't see how software would permanently affect hardware.

Maybe so. I find it hilarious showing that the phone number under phone status comes up as "Unknown" though. It's great for a bit of banter against those who seem wise when it comes to rejecting "private number " calls.
