Where can I value & sell jewellery?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum section, I wasn't sure.

My OH was given some seemingly valuable jewellery a while back and as money's a bit tight now we're looking at selling some things off.

She has a ruby necklace and some gemstone earrings which we believe to be worth a few hundred euro.

Are there any jewellers in Dublin where I could bring the items in and get them valued for free? From googling it seems valuations are costly and it's more geared towards gold and diamonds.

And secondly are there stores that buy used jewellery (saying that they're like new) or genuine pawnbrokers etc or would we be better off advertising them for sale on adverts/done deal or something?

    Thanks

Various forums on the net may help valuation if you post pics and short description, but if it's gold without hallmark an acid test is needed

I had some items I inherited valued by Carol Clarke in the Hibernian Mall. It was €50 per item. She also gave advice on the best way to sell them - one idea is to bring them to an auction house where you will probably get the best price for them. Now's not really a good time to sell though, if you could wait till closer to Christmas that might be better. Smaller jewellers might be worth a try, sometimes they have clients looking for a particular piece and if yours matched that you could be in luck. Please don't go to pawn brokers or cash for gold places, they will only give you a tiny fraction of the true value of the piece.

    .

Hi thanks for the info. I'd be worried that the items would only be worth €50 and I'd make nothing from them!

Maybe if I walk into a few jewellers they might be able to offer some advice.

I prefer selling gold or any jewellery item online as online pawn brokers pay way more than any other stores.

    That sounds like a pitch.
