    RIP. :(

Very sad indeed, he looked very frail last year when he was at the races to watch Frankel at York I think. RIP

    Awful sad.

At least he went out with a bang - Frankel.
Training him the last few years, im sure would have eased some of his pain.

    RIP :(

    A genius of a trainer.

Growing up watching the sport and flat racing has always had Henry Cecil and the silks of Khalid Abdullah. Henry is now deceased and The Prince is cutting back on his racing operation, things won't be the same again :(

    RIP Henry

One of the great things about racing. Henry was an absolute joy to behold. It was difficult to watch his health deteriorate as it did. He waited for Frankel, it seems. RIP, a gent.

RIP to a great trainer & true gentleman. Only fitting that he got to train the greatest racehorse we've ever seen. Feel sorry for those at warren place today. :(

In a world were the word legend is thrown about like confetti, this man truly is a legend. A sad day for racing. One of the great trainers of fillies and the wonderful way he handled Frankel we will be forever grateful. RIP Sir Henry Cecil

RIP ,and as was mentioned here sad to see him so frail near the end , but that is the nature of the awful disease . Great memories though especially of the mid eighties when I worked the Bookie shops London , REFERENCE POINT and SLIP ANCHOR have fond memories of those two ,Steve Cauthen the legendary Jockey and of course Willie Carson.

Just chatting to my dad here about some of the horses he had throughout the years. You nearly forget (and for a young lad like me, I probably missed his best). Slip Anchor, Reference Point, Kris, Le Moss, Indian Skimmer, Oath. A scary Arsenal. Dad pointed out all of the jocks that learned under him and that he helped propel to the top, also, Caucer, Piggott, Fallon, Mercer, Eddery. What a man.

A true gentleman and a sublime trainer. Glad he had an Indian Summer ending to his long and distinguished training career.

Great email in there on ATR. Just sums the generosity of the man up!

    What was the jist, Jimjamcos?

    What was the jist, Jimjamcos?

The man (emailing in) went up to Cecil at the races one day and asked him why he had no open day at Warren Place anymore? Henry replied: "why you ask?" Man says "I've a 15 year old son who'd love to see your yard". Henry says: "bring him to me next time your at the races". Next time at the races man brings his son up to Henry thinking he'd have forgotten even talking to him but Henry immediately recognises him and says "you'll have to see Warren Place so".

A date is arranged and man brings son to the great man's yard where Henry personally shows them about, chatting away for an hour or so. Henry then calls David Lanigan over and says "we're off for dinner now".

The man's son ended up spending 3 full days at Warren place and was given a stable jacket and Khalid Abdullah silks before he left.

They've had a bond and followed Sir Henry and his horses with fondness together ever since.

A brilliant gesture from a great, great man! :)

that's a nice story, and seems to be in line with what others say about the man.
He'll be badly missed, really badly missed.

Was so sad to hear of Sir Henry's passing today.

It was great that he was able to go out on a high with Frankel. Was astounded to see his list of major race wins today.

The word may have lost some meaning but he is a genuine Legend.

Sad to hear this today. I was lucky enough to meet him twice on stable tours of Warren Place, down to earth and a true gentleman. My dad was beside him in the stand during Frankel's final race and was the first to shake his hand afterwards.

Thanks for the memories Henry and may he R.I.P.

His Illness over the last couple of years did nothing to dim his genius. The 2nd best trainer ever and a gentleman to boot. R.i.p Henry.

Just watching his interview there on ATR. Only ever knew his horses, not the man. Some career. RIP.

RIP Sir Henry. Would agree that he has to be the 2nd best trainer ever (I presume Vincent O'Brien is Number 1 but there wouldn't be much in it).

Also nice to see Kieren Fallon amongst those paying their respects......just thougtht that Brian Fletcher, so conspicuous by his silence on Ginger McCain's passing, could learn from Fallon's maganimity.....

RIP. A true gent. Had a chat with him about 2 yrs ago at the curragh. Spoke about midday who was running there that day and of course the great Frankel. He was so down to earth. Even got him to sign my race card. Happy that frankel came his way as I'm sure he got great enjoyment from those days.
