Just wondering if any of you know if there are any BSL3 labs in Ireland. I don't mean in research labs like UCD, I'm looking for ones in Pharma companies or hospitals etc??

    Tia:)

No idea about commercial labs but every hospital with a microbiology lab would have at least a level 2 lab. A lot of the general/regional hospitals like st Vincent's would also have level 3 labs for TB, E. Coli etc. in their micro departments.

I don't know but I assume the NVRL has at least level 3 if not level 4 labs?

NVRL and CRID would have BSL3 access but in relation to pharma companies, I doubt any in Ireland would have them since not much R&D is done here in the pharma industry,

Thanks. That's what I figured. I've lived outside of Ireland for quite sometime so I was just wondering if my BSL3 experience would help me get a job. But as there are only 2 I would imagine jobs there are few and far between.

It depends on what your experience is and how you sell it.
The pharmaceutical companies may not have research labs but they do have clean rooms (not BSL3 but not completely unrelated). They also have QC labs to monitor the clean rooms as well as the product.

I'm not sure about the NVRL but to work in hospital microbiology labs as a scientist you need to be elligible to be a member of the Academy of Medical Laboratory scientists by law. The jobs are few and far between but they do come up. I know of 3 microbiology jobs that were filled this year because the people doing them got similar jobs elsewhere.

To work in the NVRL you dont need a med lab science qualification.
