Scum will be scum. Their mates death is on their hands now. Its hard to accept some people can be so moronic to attack emergency services when someone is at deaths door.

That's fcuking unbelievable. I really wish they'd introduce mandatory sentencing for those found guilty of assaulting emergency workers.

Another scumbag thread but this one is the worst so far
What the fcuk is wrong with these little sh!ts now days
Up the mountains in back of a transit and break their legs and they can crawl home

Struggling to think of any sort of motivation for this. Attacks on emergency services are always deplorable, but this one is beyond comprehension.

If it could be showed the man may have survived if they weren't attacked, I wonder could they be liable for manslaughter charges?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Attacking the emergency services is about the lowest, stupidest thing imaginable and there really is no excuse for it.

That said, I am holding out a miniscule glimmer of hope that the tools doing the attacking were not aware of what the services were trying to do.
If they were aware and were obstructing the services from doing their job I really hope they are caught and punished.

Either way it is a truly sorry state of affairs - unreal in fact

Id say they were so pissed that they didnt realise that all the rescuers and cops were for a drowning person and instead thought they were there to break up the party/gathering and so attacked them

Yeah I'm kind of hoping for the sake of humanity that is what happened.
Even at that it's clearly not on attacking the emergency services but you'd really hope people are not so callous as to obstruct a rescue.

I know someone who works for a security firm and he said people often attack the van thinking it is a Garda van.
So, it's possible these idiots thought they were standing up to the powers that be. It really is depressing stuff.

    Ban alcohol and ban rivers!

It is understood that some of the group had been drinking and a number of them, including the deceased, entered the water.

At midnight, the man experienced difficulty and members of the group raised the alarm.

When emergency services arrived a number of people attacked the crews by throwing bottles and stones at them.

A large garda presence was required to protect rescuers as they tried to find Mr O’Driscoll.

From my reading of that, I'm under no illusion that the scrotes weren't aware of what was going on when they decided to attack the crews.

doubt it more like the ones who attacked them were off their head or riding down the back when the incident happened, then came back to find a 'raid' as they thought in progress and rebelled

It was these same folks that rang the Emergency Services so they must have known it wasn't a party bust.
These same types have been attacking the ES for generations. It's no new thing. Saw it for myself back in the 70s.
It must be some sort of 'right of passage' from junior lowlife to senior level or to impress any females present.
God only knows what goes on in the minds of such people.

how could they continue to party when ther mate is dying ? - regardless of how drunk they were , if they had any humanity in them - the party would have ended - Respect

The Guards have the very unfortunate jobs of dealing with these scum. Hence I suppose why the scum feel the need to attack them on occasion.

But I really can't understand why they attack the ambulance and fire service crews. Am I missing something?

The only thing I could think of to justify that is that they might of thought the emergency services took too long to arrive and they knew their friend was long gone....

    Still incredibly retarded though

music loud enough, dark enough [it was midnight] enough drink/ coctail of drugs taken + hordes or people milling around no doubt. some people dont panic when they hear stuff just get on with it. but really no one knows

then again maybe they didnt like him and wanted to prevent him being rescued. maybe they were going to kill him next week [gangland linked], maybe they drowned him, anything could have happened and there could be any number of reasons for it

all that can be said is an incident happened and someone died

Despite my previous posts I think there are some people who simply don't give a damn.

Many years ago (probably around 11 now) I was leaving a house party on Finglas Rd and walking back towards Phibsboro.

As I crossed the bridge over the canal a young guy on a bike came up and said someone had just jumped in the canal.
Without thinking I went down to the water's edge and sure enough there was a head bobbing the water.
The guy in the water was concious and I engaged him in conversation
The guy on the bike had called the fire brigade. It took a good few minutes for the fire brigade to get there and whilst we were waiting for that I stayed talking to the man in the canal. A small crowd had gathered on the bridge above and at one point a scumbag type walked down and asked 'is he going to get out?' I said I didn't know and he said 'if you show him your tits he might'

A very weird moment I have to say as the guy in the water was saying 'typical'

So yeah I guess there have always been people that just don't give a **** about anyone else
However, at least he didn't attack the fire brigade when they did arrive and get the guy out of the water.

I'm holding out some hope that the people doing the attacking didn't realise the full situation and have now learned a valuable lesson.

If it really was the same people doing the attacking as called the emergency services I don't even know how to tackle such depravity.

I'd say its more likely that they threw stones at the guards rather than throwing stones and bottles at the ambulance while they were working on the victim which is the vision I first got when I read the thread title.

Still scummy but probably not what everyone is thinking.

There was talk about bringing in legislation to impose a 5 year mandatory jail sentence on people who attack emergency service workers. Just looking up on it and it was rejected last year. Might seem a bit harsh but zero tolerance really is needed.

Well the article isn't very detailed but it read to me like the emergency services arrived first, were under attack and had to request a garda presence for protection.
If it is possible for the people involved to feel any remorse or learn something at least the man's unfortunate death will have achieved something positive.
    It sounds horrendous though

Don't think it's harsh at all. The emergency services do a dangerous enough job as it is. Shouldn't be made more dangerous than it has to be.

Surely emergency personnel are going to get sick of this sooner rather than later.

I really hope it gets proven that the attack on ambulance caused death, and people responsible for this get seriously punished as something has to be done to stop this.
There's no excuse for attacked ambulance personnel...alcohol can't be the cause of it its just plain stupidity.

    Mandatory military service.

Round up anyone who was convicted for crimes like this. Create a second army called the "Scumbag regiment" and make them join or be jailed for life. Send them all to do peacekeeping abroad. If they do well, good, if they die, good.

Maybe it's a bit extreme but I read stories like this everyday and I'm just filled with pure hatred for anyone who does ****e like this.

ireland already had this...they were called the black and tans!!

It was defeated because it was insanely far-reaching and ambiguous in nature. It made no distinction between crews responding to emergency calls, and those (Gardai mainly) who would be on duty during volatile situations such as protests etc. Essentially, if that bill was passed as it was, it would have meant that Gardai could hypothetically baton-charge a crowd; however peaceful it was, and that anyone who reacted to it would have been flung in jail for 5 years regardless of circumstances.

We already have laws to deal with this sort of thing. They need to be enforced and more importantly the punishments for these crimes and crimes in general need to be implemented and applied in such a way as to deter others from repeating these actions. People get off scott free way too easily nowadays and our consistency and implementation of punishments is farcical.
