AXA / Topaz fuel card

Is it just AXA has changed the terms for their fuel cards? They've switched billing to weekly but more importantly they've fixed the price to pump minus 2c, which completely defeats the purpose given Topaz's ridiculous pump prices. Is the business Topaz card affected the same way? How about the other white-labelled cards? What's the best deal these days, for 2 petrol cars (medium mileage on one, small on the other, both heavy drinkers)?

I have a personal Topaz card (through motorcard.ie) and haven't seen any changes like you describe.

    Maybe just them?

I just recently got a Topaz card, and it's weekly billing - I thought it was always like that.

I'm lucky though, my local Topaz station is routinely among the cheapest for petrol in my part of Dublin anyway.

Its an absolute joke the changes they made and I love the way they worded it like it was customer demand, I can't see why anyone would opt for this.

Weekly billing totally defeats the purpose of the card as it was the monthly billing that was attractive along with just pulling up to any topaz and paying the same price. Now you will pay more with the card at some stations than without it at others due to the price on the board being less, the only place it works well is in an already cheap station.

I'm very annoyed with this I have to say and to top it all off, I will have to pay last months bill and pay for most of the petrol I use this month also which would normally be paid for next month meaning I've double the petrol bill this month.

It must be just the axa/topaz card affected.

Shell fuels were re-branded as topaz in Ireland. I wouldn't give them a penny. Scum.

Solution is to ditch the card, and look for a better offer.

I've already shredded mine, here looking for a better offer. I'm sure Mila Modern Nurse is too. Got anything of value to add?

Aaaanyway, pa990, is yours personal or business? Going to email them to ask if the business cards are affected.

I got my cards thru my credit union

I have been using the personal Topaz card for the past year. I haven't heard of any changes, i have been getting billed on monthly bases and the per liter price would change every week as advertised on www.fuelcard.ie. Currently 154.28/L vs 158.9/L in my local topaz.

Are we talking about the same Topaz card?

Topaz don't do a personal card direct, or at least they don't any more, so perhaps you got yours vis MotorCheck, the GAA or a credit union?

I emailed them and asked, they said "The changes notified to Axa customers only apply to Axa customers only." They also say that the business cards are billed weekly or fortnightly, presumably based on usage.

The MotorCheck one seems to be still running the old way, I'll ask if they plan on changing.

I think you'll find that Topaz, through a number of large investors, bought out the entire interest of Irish Shell as they did with Statoil nearly 7 years ago. Shell have nothing to do with Topaz who are a completely owned Irish company. Irish Shell solely remain here to back up their interests in the Corrib basin & also to maintain their interests in the aviation market here. Other than that Shell are gone....scum or not, it's very unfair to tar another company with the same brush (& no I've no loyalty to Topaz but I do think it's fair to tell things factually)
