I know girls like viki beckham there who went and got fake teeth, and like viki really good looking girls too, they were beautiful before too, now they look so fake, what posses people to change their teeth [and by definition how their whole face looks when they try to smile] to that extent. its really sad to see such low confidence in people or rather their quest for what they think is perfection ?, when its anything but to the rest of us

There are many genuine reasons why people have to get fake teeth. Maybe she banged her mouth of the toilet bowl, like me.

there are but as you no doubt know Im talking about the ones not related to an emergency like yours, more the elective cosmetic reasons for reasons of vanity ect

by fake teeth you mean implants or veneers?

They're so expensive that I'm sure nobody except the very wealthiest people would take the decision lightly. I don't know anyone who has had work done and didn't need it tbh. Fricked up teeth don't just mess with your face's appearance, they can also cause genuine health issues.

I have dental implants. I got an elbow playing sport when I was younger and I was left with two baby teeth that never fell out. The adult teeth for those two teeth were left in the roof of my mouth but never developed. The baby teeth fell out in my early 20s and I got dental implants to fill in the gaps. Best money I ever spent.

When I was on holidays in Turkey a few years ago, there were about 15 women, of various ages, in our hotel, there to get veneers in.

It cost thousands and seemed to be really painful.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If they have the money let them at it, I say. They'll only spend it on some other foolish nonsense anyway. Implantologists need to eat too.:pac:

and not because you lost some either, but that you got your perfectly healthy 'and were not causing you any health probles' teeth taken out to have them replaced by cosmetic fake ones

    yeah, I'm with others.
Teath generally isn't something changed for perfection. Now whitening them/braces/leveling them is.
    __
But on the comment of plastic surgery and chasing perfection. There aiming for the media's idea of beauty. Or can't accept their own features. I.E nose jobs.
People, mostly women..but it seems to be spreading to men too, are desperate for this single standard of perfection. of beauty. If you're not close to the medias idea of beauty, than you are not beautiful.
It's a disease, cultivated for many many years now.

My sister got them done and they were painful. Full crowns can be very painful too. I got a partial one and it was fine.

yup thats where the girls Im talking about went too. I mean teeth are not nice flesh, you have to eat with them, just take a look and ask an elderly person with false teeth if they are happy with their new set

Well I have braces if that counts (I'm a guy in my late twenties). I always felt self conscious about my teeth, and unfortunately never got the chance to have them as a teenager. Even though they're still on, I feel much better about myself. You could call it vanity but fu(k it, why not.

    Next up, boob job :pac:

Did you get those invisalign braces, if you don't mind me asking? My niece needs to get braces and was thinking about those.

No, but I'm sure someone in the Dental Issues forum can help out.

Some women that were there were older, like 50s and 60s, and they seemed to be either getting partial ones, or maybe just had bad teeth and were fed up. Which I could perfectly understand.

But this one girl we got friendly with was 22, had lovely white even teeth and came out for a holiday. Seen these other ladies getting there teeth done and decided she wanted it too. Got her mam to transfer €3000 and off she went. The first day they seemed to file down her teeth to sharp little points. She came back in agony. You can imagine now 48 degree heat and basically every tooth in your head pulled and twisted.

Went back the next day and got the final implants. The looked grand, but way too white and way too big for her mouth. Her own teeth were gorgeous like. Just seemed to be one of these girls that are never content.

I had 2 crowns to replace my front teeth after I had to have a root canal done on one of them. The tooth that needed the root canal had discoloured and made me really self conscious. So when I got the crowns made I asked the dentist to have them made a slightly smaller length than my previous front teeth. It made a total difference to my smile. It was only something I got done because of the discolouring though, and I probably never would have gone out of the way to spend money on crowns if that hadn't happened.

It's improved my confidence loads and I think if people have the money for it, then why not?

Also, getting crowns fixed doesn't really hurt very much apart from a week or two of sensitivity afterwards.

I'd like braces, I have a gap in my teeth which I have always hated and wouldn't mind getting it closed up. I think straight perfect teeth are gorgeous. Don't think I'd get a full set of veneers mind you.

I'd get them for my bottom teeth, have a gap between the front two, its not as noticable as it would be on my top ones which are ok but it bugs me, already asked my dentist bout it and they said braces probably wouldnt do much

It's all worth it once you look in the mirror and see that perfect Oak veneer reflected back at you.

I have relatively healthy teeth, but they are very crooked and the front teeth are badly discoloured, all from when I fell off my bike when I was 11. Never got called from the HSE list for braces so never got them done. At some point I will be paying a lot of money to get them coloured nicely and straightened. Saying that, I'm 28 and have no plan to do it until I finish travelling. I hate my smile but I have good self confidence in general, and am "Aready goodlooking", but I want them done at some point.

An aunt of mine spent 35k (I think that was the figure I was told) on entirely new teeth. I gather she had all the originals intact, but they were ground down and replaced entirely for aesthetic reasons.

Everyone has their priorities I suppose. I'd be more likely to spend money on things that will make the fake teeth a necessity.

Or Alice from EastEnders, she was pretty anyway beforehand, but now I can't stop staring at her mouth and imagine her teeth being too big for it (even though they obviously look good).

Do these things last long? That sounds like a last ditch effort as your originals are permanently effed up! They could have been beforehand of course but still. Its extreme stuff!

I think your gap is beautiful. It is interesting to note the different ideas of beauty across cultures. See in my culture, a gap between the teeth is considered a thing of beauty. Seriously. We even have poems about the beauty of girls with gaps between their teeth. I know a great many women who would trade you their gap free ugliness :P for your beautiful gap toothed smile :).
