I have a ford 7740 sl .we make about 900 bales a year. But next year I want to do it my self.too much to pay contractor. Mchale said 80 HP to work baler. Ford 7740 has 98 HP. How would she do bailing silage and the odd bit of hay.would she be under pressure. Does anyone have a ford 7740 bailing. Hope to get suggestions..... how would she be doing a small chop to the grass.

I'd say she'd be fine. Used to have a 6610 on a welger 220 and i managed ok so a 7740 should do better.

    How is your ground? Hills?
It will be slow so dont compare against a 150hp tractor speed. Also you may notice a lack of compaction in comparison with a tractor of 150hp.

Every knife you use in the baler you will need 10 hp to run it

So what do you think.if I only used 5 knives.surely she would be fine and strong.or should I get a stronger tractor

I think she would run it but you will be taking your time making them, but that doesnt matter a whole pile as the machine is for your own use.

If I did not chop how would she be then. Because I could do without chopping. But how many knives to do a tiny chop. So you all think she will be perfect with the baler.
