Job Hunt dress code

I was going through different forums but I think this one would be the most appropriate to post in. In few days I am going abroad to look for work (it will be over 24degrees every day). How should I dress? Wearing long sleeve and dark trousers would result in overheating my body (I remember being abroad and wearing dark trousers, after an hour I couldn't walk as my legs got so hot and therefore sore). I do not want to underdress either. I just want to note that I do not own or wear dresses or skirts. Any advice?

Have you a linen suit by any chance?

unfortunately not, and my budget is quite low as well, I do not have a job now and I have to support myself there from my savings and I do not have a lot saved either

Go to Pennys, get light weight trousers (11 euro) and short sleeved smart top. Wear jacket only when arriving in to the interview reception area - shouldn't get too sweaty before meeting HR. Wear a sandal too, that keeps your feet cool. Good luck with the interview.

Thanks for the reply but what I meant was a job hunt, i.e. walking from bar to bar and leaving my CV, I have few clothes what I could wear for the interview but they wouldn't be too comfortable to be in all day every day.

Well that would be a more casual situation so a light weight trouser (if you prefer trousers) and a small short sleeved top would be grand - and light make up, not trowelled on (unless its a nightclub and appropriate). Clean and smart and comfortable would be my suggestion. Weather is supposed to change monday/tuesday so heat shouldn't be such a problem.

Thank you. I am going abroad on few days to look for employment and as I checked the temperature will be over 24 degrees every day.
Should the trousers be angle length or a bit shorter would be appropriate as well? And shoes, would black, plain sandals or flats be ok?

I sound a bit older than you so my ideas on style would be different to you. I suppose it depends where you are going? If you are going to spain/portugal/greece/cyprus you would be better to dress to fit in - not sure why you wouldn't prefer a maxi dress or something similar.

you really need to wear what you feel comfortable in. Honestly, if you are clean and tidy and look interested and of a happy disposition, that's more important than what you are wearing. When you get to your destination, look at the locals in your age group are wearing and see if you can get something similar. Hope you are successful.

I will be going to France. Yes I am kinda young thats why I do not have much experience and I keep hearing different things from different people. I do have my reasons not to wear any kind of dress or skirt. Thanks for all your help

The French like their style so I wouldn't be wearing shorts and boob tube! honestly, the light weight trousers in Pennys are grand, won't last forever, but they'll do the job and a nice top, clean hair, clean nails. You'll be grand. Enjoy your trip.

No, I wouldnt be wearing anything like that, I was actually thinking about trousers to about 12cm above the ankle just to keep my legs cool but I might just get some other trousers in Penneys, I'll just see what do they have there and then I am thinking about some kind of short sleeved top or just one of the white tops with stripes on which I will put on a short sleeve shirt before entering any potential employer

Loads of lovely modern tops, singlet style, in Pennys and capri pants, different colours, which are fitted and about mid calf - was in there buying for a teenager yesterday, loads to choose from - also shoes, something to suit everyone. I wouldn't panic, all very reasonably priced

So would capri pants, some nice but plain top and plain black sandals/flats be ok for a job hunt?

Absolutely. Depends on the type of establishment but that would be perfectly fine. You would look out of place in a heavy trouser and jacket in a country with a sunny climate. I got the impression capri pants were in this year and Pennys have a huge selection of tops - so do Dunnes (teenager like them as well). Try New Look as well, they have a good selection of reasonably priced younger wear.

I will be applying for summer jobs in pubs, restaurants, shops etc, nothing too serious but I really do need to find something as I need to improve my french over the summer. I recently got a pair of capri pants and I really like them. Unfortunately there is no New Look near me (I often dress myself there) but I will go to Dunnes and Penneys some day before I go to get some shopping done. Thank you so much

Capri pants and a top sound fine. I used to work in a restaurant, and pretty much everyone who came in applying for a summer job wore casual clothes (and this was in Ireland, so they could have worn trousers and a blouse without being too warm!), and it wasn't an issue. How they dressed on the interview day was the issue. So while you're going from place to place, don't worry, capri pants are grand. :) Good luck with the job hunt!
