    does anyone know what the ruins besides and at the golfclub-gate were for? or any history to it?

    Top of the headland there was a coast guard station.

    Years since ive been there but do you mean the old fort walls? Id presume it would have been a Norman promontory fort - a fort with walled at only one side, cliffs making the rest inaccessible.
    The galley head near clonakilty is very similar but not preserved.
