I am the guest at a weeding. Is it OK to wear sandals? Also i will be wearing a shirt. Does everyone still wear ties?

I don't think sandals go with a suit tbh

Depends on the location, if its a wedding actually on a beach, then yes sandals and shirt, no tie would be acceptable. If its a home wedding, unless you're told a casual dress code on the invite, then no. And yes to the shirt and tie.

Then no, proper shoes, and a shirt and tie required.

I'd say it depends on what the bride & groom are like. Do you know them well? Were getting married in September and honestly couldn't care what people wear. Once the ceremony is over I shall be taking my shoes off and will be barefoot for the rest of the day.
If somebody was wearing sandals I wouldn't bat an eye! Obviously you wouldn't want to wear a super smart/sharp suit and sandals cos it would look odd. But if sandals fit with your style I wouldn't have a problem.

Then again, a lot of people would have a problem. So like I said, it depends on what the bride and groom are like and also if they have stated that there is a dress code.

Well it depends on what else you are wearing. Are you wearing a suit? Does the invite specify a dress code? Where is the reception being held (is it outdoors?).

+1 we had a very traditional church wedding, and one of our friends came in jeans and a open neck shirt but we couldn't have cared less and he enjoyed himself :)

No dress code. I know the groom only. No dress code specified. The reception was held partly outdoors. I did not wear a jacket. Far to warm, some men went with a petticoat only. I did not wear sandals in the end. But their was some people there in open neck shirts.

Personally I think there is a bit of a difference between opening a button on your shirt and rocking up in a pair of sandals.

I think you made the correct decision! :)
