What do you reckon the real value of a 2011 BMW 520d SE Touring with auto transmission is in terms of buying from a main dealer ? Looking at advertised prices they are all around the 40k mark which to me seems expensive. New face lifted one is out and available to order now with higher spec than most of the used ones and would be RRP of approx 50-52k. A demo 2013 can be bought for around 47k.

I'm looking for one but hard to find a 'good' deal so either my negotiation/bargaining powers are rubbish or I'm expecting too much discount!

Have you priced sourcing one from the uk? That will give you something to go off. But don't forget the premium of buying local and AUC warranty.

Many of the ones in dealers are UK imports. This means that BMW main dealers are travelling over to UK main dealers buying up some stock and selling to Irish consumers for a considerable profit. They will of course aim to make a profit on the car you trade in to them. Answer; sell your trade in privately and source a UK main dealer car to cut out the middle man. €40k should get you a low mileage high spec one even with the vrt

The ones I'm looking at are Irish and to be honest I'm not keen on importing a UK one as the miles speedometer would annoy me :) I know it's a small thing but don't want to sit in a car and have it annoy me every day after spending 35-40k.

The point is whether a 2 year old one is really only discounted by around 7k-8k from a 2013 demo....seems awful small depreciation which I find hard to see being reflected back when I go to trade it in again.

I'm not recommending a uk purchase, but a uk car landed here including vrt and expenses is a good way to gauge if the irishndealer price is in and around the going rate.

Are all the cars you are looking priced the same?
Have you talked to the dealers face to face to see what straight sale price can be achieved and maybe play one of another?

Not a touring but 2011 SE saloon auto can be got from BMW UK dealer for 30k including vrt.

I think you can get them converted to Kilometers. The Irish BMW dealers selling UK stock convert the speedos.

On a very quick check a March 2011 uk is priced at 24,400 STG so around 28.5k euro and VRT is 6.8k so total of around 35-36k which is pretty much what I would have thought real value is but factor in hassle and travel cost and not a whole lot of saving. I'm sure some negotiation could be done on the uk asking price. The OMSP from revenue is 36,166.

I have spoken to the dealers face to face but being told that a car sticker price of 39,990 will make 39,500 as straight sale! I had suggested 35 as the real value but he didn't seem to agree :-)

It is possible to covert but heard quotes of around 1k to do it correctly. If the dealer had already done it I'd have no problem with that.

Maybe I'm expecting too much of a discount but figures show 50+% depreciation in 3 years and I expected most in first 2 ....

Don't forget you'd expect to knock at least 5% off that price for straight cash deal.

If you weren't bothered about the mileage, you'd get this nice car for £19,500 and have it registered in Ireland all in for EUR 30k.

Also someone told me that BMW UK will bring any of their used BMW's to your preferred BMW dealer which may make the transaction more convenient.
