Hot water taps not flowing

Basically I had a leak in the bathroom (pipe going into toilet cistern was leaking) and after failing to fix it prior to leaving for the weekend I decided I better turn off the water completely to prevent any floods etc.
So, turned the valve for the mains off, turned on the taps to empty the tank upstairs. All good.

When I came back on Monday I turned back on the water, but for some reason none of the hot water taps are now working. Well, after some serious sputtering the downstairs kitchen tap will work (for a while anyway), but the upstairs taps barely give a dribble (cold taps fine).

I’m guessing the answer is just “call a plumber”, but just wanted to check in case there is something really obvious causing this that my complete plumbing ignorance is missing.

just airlocked is all,is it a mixer tap on the kitchen?
just put your hand on the spout open the hot and open the mains side ad force it through

No standard hot/cold taps all round.
When you say "put your hand on the spout" I assume you mean block it ya? To increase the pressure?
